Herod Antipas (8/05/99) while ambling through the unabridged upon page 1479 an interesting family some early m - a - g words a bit past magenta and way before majestic magnificent magpie inclusive: magerful to magnesia i focused on the relationship between maggot magician magistrate and magnate it seemed a natural progression to me MAGGOT was first in the alphabetical order i could relate to this term (all men are not much more honorable than fly larvae) in this sense not to necessarily single him out Herod Antipas started out like the rest of us but he went way beyond the maggot stage he was a man with his pulse on the people he’d be right in style today rank and prejudice, playing both sides simultaneously Roman and then Maccabean.. boy! he could play a mean jazz shophar even his niece’s daughter was talented but this guy kept his word when he said he’d do something no matter what, he’d do it, wow, even his magic was in style if he said he’d be in New York City on August 23rd if for example he lived today he’d sure be there, nothing would stop him! not even the head of John the Baptist assuming he was alive now too, when he said he’d marry his niece he did it didn’t he! he sure would be riding the pulse of the public today! Herod, was an evil magician another man’s death was involved i avoided using the term black magician as opposed to white magician even though evil spelled backwards is live (lyve) some pronounce it live (liv) and we have a whole lot of things mixed up today Herod would even probably agree hey catch this!!!! our special guest star tonight! Herod the Tetrarch of Galilee and Peraea (alright so i do my research!) our special guest star tonight! Herod the Tetrarch of Galilee and Peraea Live it’s Saturday Nite! MAGGOT - MAGICIAN well Herod was also a magistrate of sorts he ruled Judea in a land claimed by many (Jesus called him “that fox” but Jesus wouldn’t talk to him when he had his big chance) so what if Herod lost his army to his first wife’s dad why does everybody have to pick on Herod anyway? maybe he was an affable sort i think they named the antipasto after him i mean Herod Antipas.... he liked those Latin coldcuts all mixed together with olive oil and vinegar when he visited Rome, i’m sure he’d be a real cool guy if he lived today, i mean, he was a victim of circumstances somewhat, most politicians get themselves in trouble today even though they do the same things everybody else does, don’t they? MAGGOT - MAGICIAN - MAGISTRATE boy, this page of the unabridged was full of thought! we said it was crazy to read the dictionary when we were kids, but Herod wasn’t just a petty dog officer like Richard Nixon, i mean, before Richard became President of the U.S.A.., Herod Antipas, he was a magnate, he built a seaport and kissed up to the emperor Tiberius, but maybe not enough, i think that’s why he was later banished to Gaul but it’s still ok for Tommy Mottola of the Sony Music Corporation as long as Carol King is still the empress of Pop everybody respects a powerful charitable guy like him, even hip musicians cruise the streets of New York City in stretch limos with him! or how about Donald Trump who has a tower named after himself and even papparazzi following him, though he doesn’t act or sing and i bet if Herod Antipas lived today he’d be a magnate just like them too! (although he lives in the hearts of many moguls that process the innocent anyway) if he lived today i bet he’d be trying to save the environment and probably be at the forefront of fundraisers for any good cause you could think of he’d be in the news all the time attracting all kinds of people to himself.... not a magnet a magnate you dummy!! well, sometimes the dictionary gets a little difficult, it’s kinda dry reading you know and maybe magnate derived from magnet anyway, it’s on the next page, you know a little past magnesia But, Herod Antipas he made it to the top: MAGGOT - MAGICIAN - MAGISTRATE - MAGNATE i guess you can’t go any higher than that, boy, there’s a lot of pressure up there!! that’s why i’m content to be just a plain ol’ maggot.
