i've said all that i have to say (03/31/01) i've said all that i have to say i really don't have anything else to say i've said it with my whole heart and with my whole soul using the little bit of mind that i still have there were always so few of you within hearing distance and perhaps only one or two of you ever listened to a line or so i've said all that i have to say i really don't have anything else to say i'm glad that you didn't like my work enough to badger me to repeat this one or that one over and over and over i'm glad i didn't win any slams or national awards so that i would have to utter on demand things that i said that pertained to another time and to another moment again and again and again i'm glad that i didn't let you key into a moment in my past so i'd be forced to relive it time after time after time while i'd be present in the present like a marionette on strings lifeless until you pulled the cord jay jay could you do Soothsayer jay jay could you do You Appeared To Me In Leaves jay jay could you do In The Midst Of Seven jay jay could you do My Best Friend i'm glad that i was adept enough to duck from that punch and rise to deliver my shot i was light footed like a prize fighter fortunate enough to arrive at the end of my career without seizure disorder i'm glad you had not dazed me long enough upon my stage with sycophantic praise to forge me as an icon later locked inside a bust preset motionless in stone passers then could amble by some to marvel some to moan i'm glad you will not fix my lines upon a child's page with pure pedantic poise to teach me as a poet closed inside a fragile life printed black and bold on white (squirming for the bell to ring kids burst forth clear out of sight)
