Fires Status of June 13, 2002
In June 2002 the state of Colorado in the mist of a drought became an inferno due to several forest fires of which are very close to Denver, CO. The worst being in Northern Colorado started from an coal vein that had been burning for 100 years. The City of Glenwood Springs is threatened by this fire. At this time there are 7 major fires going all at once. Estimates are made that the fires will not be under control until the coming of the winter months. The fire moving towards Denver on June 13, 2002 is traveling at 2 miles per hour. Over 90.000 acres have been burned so far in that fire alone. Several cities have been evacuated and homes have burned. Fire fighters from all over the country are here to help. One fire alone has 700 fighters there.
