"Silent Women With Callas"
P. Jones

Silent Women

I'm pleased to fill crystal
with callas again,
recall how little they ask
to grace ditches,
my mother's grave
twice a year.

Midwesterners pay big
for what these locals
call weeds.
I see them as women
so simply exposed
they can be drawn
with one perfect line.

about the poet:
Artist, disability advocate and former director of Missouri’s parent training center, Pat Jones began writing after retiring on the Mendocino coast of northern California in 1997. With more time for art, she works in several mediums -- acrylic, clay, wood, cement, fiber and, most recently, words. Her work is usually colorful, often humorous…some might say a tad spiritual.
