sneaking candy

uh-oh.  i’ve found the candy
but knocked the crystal dish off the counter.
i pray Mom doesn’t hear it
shatter on the kitchen tiles.

but i can already hear the bloodhounds
leading Mom into the kitchen.
they snarl at the broken glass
as Mom cuffs me and takes me to my room.
