True Love

Poison drips into my veins,
Blood flows from my scars.
At long last I have broke the chains
And escaped the prison bars.

Death is a soft, sweet lover
You tried to keep me from.
But now closely He does hover,
And my time at last has come.

I don't know why you wanted me
Or why you changed your mind.
I don't know why you kept me here
And then broke the ties that bind.

But I do know I am free now,
And my true love shows His face.
I sink slowly in the velvet dark
Into the warmth of Death's embrace.
