Ashton's Page From His Daddy

My Son My Heart

Daddy

Daddy you will never show me
how to catch or throw a ball
Or tie my laces really tight
or how to fish (with bait and all!)

You'll never teach me ABC's
or read to me, and tuck me in
You'll never kiss and make me laugh
with tickles from your spiky chin.

You'll never watch me graduate
For my cap and gown I'll never see
And you'll never hold my babies
(Like you never got to cuddle me...)

You would have been the bestest Daddy
But I had gone before you knew
So instead of watching me, My Daddy
I'll be watching over you...

-Saffron Brice, C 2000

My Son

Son you are gone
In our hearts you remain.
I will stay strong
to help Mother with the pain.
Our time together brief
painful and sad.
all filled with grief
still gratefully had.
In Jesus arms you lay in wait.
till God calls us to enter his gate.
Love, Daddy

~A Grieving Father’s Prayer~

Dear Lord,
This pain is much too hard to bare,
once again I’m kneeling by my chair.
You know grief’s heartache and pain,
you see my tears that fall like rain.
You know this has brought me to my knees,
help me Lord, I’m begging, please.
This world has no meaning since that awful day,
I had to stand by while you led my son away.
I know Heaven is our home and glory is so grand.
But, I can’t help my family when I can’t even stand.
Everyone expects more from me because I am, The Dad.
They don’t understand he was the best friend I ever had.
Lord, I’ll never understand why our children have to die,
But It would help others know when this happens.
even strong men cry.
