My Heart Bleeds
A Tribute to the Victims of September 11, 2001

A beautiful late summer morning.
A day that began as any other.
It soon became a day of horror.
A day of tragedy. A day of mourning.
As I sat alone at my computer,
my children off safely to school.
A voice came through the chatroom...
"A plane has just hit the World Trade Center."
My heart sank.
I watched as the tragedy unfolded on the news.
I watched as the second plane crashed.
Terrorists declaring war on our country.
My heart began to bleed.
Innocent lives shattered by cowards
Who choose to hide behind their religion.
Innocent lives taken
And their families asking why.
The smoke and flames were billowing
So many people trapped.
I watched as the buildings fell
And my heart began to bleed more.
I heard the cries of the innocents
Deep within my heart.
As the glory of the Twin Towers
Came crumbling to the ground.
Dispair and anguish overcame me
As tears began rolling down my face.
My country was suffering and bleeding
At the hands of cowards and fools.
A few weeks have now past.
My country is at War.
The wounds of the day are still open.
And my heart still bleeds.
Visions of the day etched permanently in my mind.
Feelings of confusion as to why.
How could this happen? Why did this happen?
Cowards......cowards trying to destroy our world!
I mourn for the innocents lost on this day.
I mourn for their families and friends.
I mourn for our country for such a great loss
We will never be the same again.
But we shall hold strong. We shall prevail.
We will fight until the end.
For "FREEDOM" is what this country was founded
And we will never give in.

God bless the USA!
