I never knew.

I never knew what I was searching for,
Never being able to love someone who I was with,
Circumstances drew us apart, but I knew where you were,
There went a piece of my heart,
For every now and then,
I thought about you,

The moonlight and your kisses,
The warmth of your smile,
And I wondered from time to time,
If you thought about me, the way I thought about you.

You were my wanderer, seeking adventure in your life,
I was the scared young woman who never dared to take the chance,
But I think I actually did, in romance.

Now I am older, and yes I took your advice,
Adventure is quite nice, but only if you've someone right
In your life..

Moonlight and kisses,
Juarez in the late afternoon,
Your soft caresses, did the memory of those,
Spoiled me for those who would come after?

Moonlight and kisses,
Anchovies and beer,
Walks and talks, and jokes in the park,
Where did it all go?

How was I to know?

You left your heartbeat in my heart,
For there was a time, I could have loved you for a lifetime
I wonder where you are, and what you are doing now,

For some unrealistic dream,
I hear the "If I were a carpenter….song"
I think about you…….

Do you think about me, the way you liked the sunlight on my hair,
And sang, "Browneyed girl to me,"
How you made me feel so complete,
But you waiting so patiently for me, but
I disappeared, or was that you?

I never knew.
