Tool Sheds and Dairy Queens

"Tool Sheds and Dairy Queens"

When the world seemed like it could never spin correctly
When life became too enriched with pungent lies
You understood all that mattered never really mattered
The world would continue to turn
The seas still churned their magical songs
And the sparrows flew onward

We were two branches from the same tree
The wind blew and we refused to break
But when the hurricane came alive
You broke

I never understood why it all fell apart
You threw all that you believed in, and all that you love
Out the window and watched it swirl in the Falls sway
Once your voice brought solidarity and reason
Now your voice is sandpaper scratching on the chalkboard,
A voice that I can no longer hear

You never understood your ways
Once a soldier piercing the radiant doom of this world
You turned your back on all that tried to help your conquest
A mother’s cry still carries a ghostly haunt inside my bones
Pleading for the world to spin the other way
Hoping that the times would change and that you’d understand

But the coyote always seems cunning until it gets caught
The Eagle soaring blindly in the night travels into dangerous territories
All that was known, all that was unknown, never really mattered
The world will continue to turn
The wind will continue to sway
And the lonely branch will hold gallantly to the tree.
