Lost In New York City

I'm just lost in
New York City.
I'm a nobody in a
mass of confusion,
lost in the city lights.
Thousands passing me by.
They don't look at me.
If they look,
they don't speak.
If they speak,
they don't see.
I'm lost and alone,
wandering along the busy streets.
Look at all the people passing by.
Not even one has love for me.
I'm a nobody in a mountain of ants
too busy to stop to say hello,
or even to say goodbye.
I'm getting old,
so what are my chances?
Looking down from the
lady I used to be.
She stands tall and above
all the busy streets
as I watch she holds a torch;
a lonely cold statue
that has no heart.
She beckons me,
inviting me to search
for what I can't find,
amongst the masses passing me by.
Just one, just one,
caring soul is all I need.
I'm a nobody,
a miserable soul,
until somebody stops
long enough to love me.
