Our True Spirit

I was in love with your spirit before we ever met. Too bad the flesh gets in the way of the light that it truly reflects. When we are blind to the flesh we can see beyond all the wrinkles and the fat or the age or even maybe the color of our hair. As a poet we can truly express what lies beneath it all. Even beneath a personality that isn't yet so pure. But, when we write to bear our souls then our true spirit can emerge. I never meant to hurt you as I know you feel the same. Circumstances just got in the way. I want to tell you that I still remember your sweet spirit, your hopes and all your dreams as I remember reading them which made me fall in love. The love I felt was real and it was true. It is your spirit I love, even-though I didn't love all of you. For we couldn't see beyond the flesh when we disagreed, and we weren't really compatible when push came to shove. Some people just can't get along and I know I am a hard case. But, God can see past all of that for He won't be as critical for an aging face. Thank God He will judge us properly on the Judgment Day. He will look past the flesh and look into the heart, to seek the things that people miss when they express their pride. He'll judge us by our deeds and by a loving heart. I want to say I'm sorry for not being Jesus-like. I'm sorry that I'm like everyone else, and seek love with eyes that are blind. Because when two people really fall in love they must look beyond the flesh.
