Silent Songs
Phoenix Lee Wright 2001
Skies fall upon your eyes,
Weighing within the hands
Of God, quiet prayers come
Knocking at your door to touch
Your soul with curious air
Only to draw you near,
They steal my heart like honest
Thieves with golden fingers to
My words and bend me speechless
To your ear.
A wordless tune is what I sing to
You, for I whistle silently for angels
Till the winds hold there breath and
Raise their lips to kiss the breeze
That gave my songs with age,
Invisible, shadows rest on my lap,
Where syllables see not to write
Within the eyes of the page.
I wish to roll the oceans in early
Scrolls and read you my letters to
Your heart the ones that never
Wrote back to me,
That tremble me so when silent
Nights sleep, I’ve tasted the salt
Of the sea.
