I pass the time of day
Sitting on a sandy stone
Watching the tide come rolling in.
I wonder how long I've watched seagulls play,
While I sat alone
Knowing not how long it's been.
I catch a glimpse of a whale
As I wait at my place,
Admiring his graceful plunge.
I wish I could fly (as seagulls do)
And meet this thing face to face
Off my rocky cliff I suddenly lunge.
I pass the time of day
Waiting on the sandy shore;
Hoping the tide will come rolling in.
