The word fuck is an acronym for For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. In other words, it means that you slept with someone outside of marrage, which, back in Ye Olde England, was one of the worst things you could do, though that didn't stop many people. When you were caught, they put you in those wooden clasps that you put your head and hands into. Above those, they would write the reason as to why you were in it. If you were caught with premarital sex, they'd write "For unlawful carnal knowledge." This became so widely used that people got lazy and shortened it to just "F.U.C.K."
The word shit is an acronym for Ship High In Transit. Back in the old days when everything was shipped by boat, so was cow dung. They shipped it dry since it weighed less and didn't smell. But sometimes water would leak through the hull and get on the dung, causing it to get heavier and smell bad. This would also cause the dung to start breaking down and release methane gas. When a crewman went into the hold with a lantern, the flame in the lantern would ignite the methane in the hull causing it to explode. People eventually realised that this was caused by the dung and started writing S.H.I.T. on the cargo to tell the crew to make room between the bottom of the boat and the dung to stop the explosions.
