Episode #35
Ash-tachi (Ash and co.) arives at the Safari Zone, though the warden is a very grumpy man, that is pretty handy with his gun. He leads them to his office, giving them a set of Safari Balls. As Ash and Brock pay for the supplies, Misty looks at some pictures that are hung on the office walls. One of them being the Safari Warden and a dratini. Noticing this, he grabs the picture and stomps off angrily out of the room with Ash-tachi wondering what his problem was.
Later, Professor Oak tells them that he was once swarmed and bothered by trainers. With so many trainers, the breeds of their pokemon were nearly extinct, thus making them very rare. If there was a dratini (one of the most rare) he'd keep it a secret so it wasn't captured. Ash respects his actions, and joins the Warden outside.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was on the roof, eavesdropping on the conversation. As Ash-tachi leaves, they attack them, but not without their proper motto, which was very quickly interrupted by shooting from the warden, who had gotten annoyed with them, and so they jump back onto the roof. Ash says they should leave anyways, since they don't have money for admission for being in the Safari Zone. Team Rocket thinks of this for a moment, while Ash prepares for a battle as it would usually happen. Although they don't want to fight, and say they'll stay at the office while Ash-tachi is gone and not cause trouble. He gives them a skepticle look, but they swear under "samurai's honor", and they grudgingly agree.
In the Safari Zone, they see a herd of tauros. Ash and Brock both catch one. Next, Ash sees a rhyhorn, and tries to catch it, but the herd of tauros run in contact with the Safari Ball, and he ends up catching another one. The rhyhorn becomes alarmed and runs deep into the forest with Ash-tachi following.
With them out of the window sight range, Jessie and James point guns at the warden's head, asking where the dratini is.
Though he knocks the guns away and makes an attempt to escape. James restrains him, but the wardens frees himself. Jessie finally wrapps him up with her Arbok and questions him again, almost coddling him- though he still refuses.
James and Meowth decide to make a little scene by shining a bright light on him, getting into old western outfits to pry it out of him, though he refuses again. They play "Nyasu no Uta" (closing theme at the time) and makes him sniff a bowl of onion soup, making him break into tears, but he still won't talk. Finally, growing tired of this, he breaks free of Arbok and tries attacking the Rockets. Though they have one more trick, and Meowth presses a button on a remote control. A strange looking robot crashes through the wall with several arms and hands. And lo! It is the worst torture device in the world! It's (oh no- dare I say it?)... a tickling machine? How pathetic... but it works, and the warden gives in and tells them where the dratini is. And so, Team Rocket goes to catch the dratini.
Ash, Misty, and Brock fish, with Misty showing off her collection of lures, with all but one shaped like pokemon. The one not shaped as one is the "Kasumi Special" which is shaped as herself. And it does seem as a "special" because she pulls up a gyarados, and they run, just barely escaping getting eaten. Then, they see the warden still in the tickling machine, hopping towards them. Pikachu shocks it, making it break down and he is freed. The warden explains what happened, and so they run back to Team Rocket.
Meowth and James are scuba diving, looking for the dratini while Jessie is by the lake, controling the apparatus. Soon, she hears a strange sound from under the water, and sees the dratini nearby. She tries coaxing it to the bank, but while doing so, she steps on the tubes that supply James and Meowth's air, making them start to suffocate just as the dratini is starting to come. Though before she can grab it, James and Meowth come up, gasping for air, making the dratini scared and it dove back into the water. At this, Jessie starts beating up James and Meowth for ruining the plan. Meowth suggests that they should plant a time bomb. When it explodes, Dratini will faint and they will get it when it floats to the surface.
Ash-tachi and the warden finally get there and order them to stop, and besides, they didn't have any Safari Balls to catch it with. The Rockets, however, throw the time bomb into the lake, and without a second thought, the warden jumps in to stop it. Ash and co. try stopping him, with Ash diving in after him. Misty sends out her staryu to retrieve Ash, though he has it get the Warden up to surface. Misty is then surprised to see him clinging onto Staryu since it was supposed to get Ash (why only Ash and not the warden? Hmmm....).
Ash finds the bomb, and swims to the surface, but runs out of air. As he sinks down, a shadow passes over him.
Team Rocket look at the sky, noticing that a storm is starting. It becomes dark quickly, rain clouds gather, and silence falls apon the area. Suddenly, there is a beam of light in the lake, and in the middle is the shadow of a strange creature.
"Hakuryuu(Dragonair)... a dragon pokémon," says Dexter.
Ash smiles down at everybody, being on Dragonair's back. He throws the bomb to Team Rocket and it explodes, making them go "blasting off again" (Ya na kanji!!! ^_^).
The dragonair swims up to the warden, and they both look at each other in the eye. Then, the small dratini, Dragonair's baby, swam up as well. The warden finally realizes that that was the dratini he knew so long ago, but had lived long enough to evolve and give birth (they put this stuff on a children's show???).
Later, Ash tells Professor Oak the story. He's pleased and asks what kind of pokemon Ash caught. He grinns and sends the Safari Balls over to him. Oak runs for his life as the herd of tauros stampedes after him.
