How To Successfully Breed Your Pokémon!

It is difficult it is to breed Pokémon. First decide what you want bred, then you have to get the parents together, and wait. But why breed? How long will it take?

Reasons:

To Get Another Rare Pokémon Breeding allows you to essentially "replicate" rare Pokémon such as Eevee or Togepi without the need to trade with a friend. It also allows you to give them your rare Pokémon without actually giving up your Pokémon. Teach Pokémon New and Different Attacks When breeding some Pokémon, their offspring may learn attacks that it normally wouldn't learn! For example, if you were to breed a female Rattata with a male Cyndaquil that knew Ember, it may be possible to produce a Rattata that knew Ember! Completing the Pokédex Some Pokémon, like Pichu and Cleffa, are only available if you breed their later evolutions (in this case, Pikachu and Clefairy).

How to Breed:

Go south of Goldenrod City is the Pokémon Daycare Center. To breed, you need to give a male Pokémon to the Old Man, and a female Pokémon to the Old Woman, or vice versa. You may also substitute a Ditto in for one of your Pokémon. Will the Pokémon breed? How long will it take? What will the offspring be?

Length of Time to Breed:

There are several factors that determine whether a Pokémon will produce an egg quickly, slowly, or not at all. The first is, can the Pokémon breed in the first place? Many Pokémon, especially rare ones like Mewtwo, Articuno, and Lugia, are not able to breed at all. Second is compatibility. A general guide to follow is to match Pokémon with either their own kind or the same picture. Sometimes though, Pokémon can breed with different looking Pokémon. The best way to know is to look at this site's Pokedex. Ditto are also capable of breeding with all breedable Pokémon. If indeed the Pokémon are capable of breeding. Same Pokémon, different ID, short between 1-250 steps

Same Pokémon, same ID, medium 250-550 steps

Different Pokémon, different ID, long 550-1000

Different Pokémon, same ID, very long 1000-1500

These numbers are my educated guesses.. it is really much more complicated and could take MUCH less or MUCH more time.

In essence, Pokémon breed fastest if they are the same type and come from different trainers, and breed the slowest if they are different and come from the same trainer.

You should note that while you're waiting for your Pokémon to breed, they are gaining 1 experience point for every step you take. Therefore breeding works best when using high-level Pokémon who no longer learn new moves naturally. Ok, so you have an egg. How long until it hatches?

Egg Hatching Guide:

When you receive an egg, a certain period of time must pass before it will hatch. Rather, you must take a certain amount of steps before it will hatch. This amount varies with the type of Pokémon that will hatch from the egg. (Note: this list may not be 100% accurate) Pokémon Number of Steps Magikarp 1,280 - 1300 Pichu; Cleffa; Igglybuff; Togepi 2,560 - 2600 Caterpie; Weedle; Pidgey; Rattata; Spearow; Zubat; Geodude; Sentret; Hoot-Hoot; Ledyba; Spinarak 3,840 - 3900

Anyone not listed is here. 5,120 - 5200

Onix; Mr. Mime; Scyther; Pinsir; Misdreavus; Heracross; Mantine; Skarmory; Tyrogue; Smoochum; Elekid; Magby 6,400 - 6,500

Omanyte; Kabuto 7,680 - 7700

Eevee; Aerodactyl 8,960 - 9000

Chansey; Lapras; Snorlax; Dratini; Larvitar 10,240 - 10300

So the egg hatches, and you receive the Pokémon. What will the offspring be like?

Attacks Guide When a Pokémon is born from an egg, a few things are determined.

The first is species. Put simply, in a male-female breeding, whichever species the female is, that's what the offspring will be. In the case of Male-Ditto and Female-Ditto breeding, whichever Pokémon the Ditto bred with, that's what the offspring will be. In that case, the offspring will be the lowest evolutionary stage of the parent. For example, a female Venusaur producing offspring would produce a baby Bulbasaur.

All Pokémon born from eggs begin at level 5, regardless of species.

When a Pokémon is born, it will automatically know a set of moves that all level 5 Pokémon of that species will know. This leaves open slots for attacks.
