GOODBYE MY FRIEND

By: James' Rose

Disclaimer: The song ‘Goodbye my Friend’ does NOT belong to me. Team Rocket do NOT belong to me. I happen to be highly allergic to courts. I’m only borrowing them for a while. Don’t worry, I’ll return them in one piece… well, maybe…

No, no, no, no,
No, no, no, no.
Now listen little child,
There will come a day,
When you will be able,
Able to say.
Never mind the pain,
Or the aggravation,
You know there’s a better way,
For you and me to be.

James view:

Well, this is it. It’s finally happened. I’ve got promoted. All those years. It’s not that I’m not pleased I got promoted it’s just…well…actually, I’m not pleased. All those years I had dreamed of getting promoted and in being in the Bosses good books, but every time I imagined it, I would always imagine Jessie would be with me too. We were a team, if one got promoted, I saw sure the other would too. I guess I was wrong.

Well, this is it. It’s finally happened. After all those years…I have to say goodbye to my best friend…

Look for the rainbow, In every star,
Fly like and angel,
Heaven sent,
To me.

Jessie’s view:

This can’t be happening. It can’t. I can’t believe it. I won’t believe it. James is leaving. The bestest friend I have ever had, the only friend. The friend that kept by my side throughout everything. All the tears of happiness and joy, all the tears of sadness and defeat.

I can’t let James know I don’t want him to leave. I’ll just act like I’m pleased for him, smile. Yes, that’s what I’ll do. If I don’t, I know I’ll just break down in tears in front of him. I can’t let that happen.

But I have to face up to the facts. James is leaving, and there’s nothing I can do about it. This is it. Out of everything I’ve done in my life, saying goodbye will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done…

Goodbye my friend
I know you had to leave me but I can still feel ya here,
It’s not the end
You’ve gotta keep it strong before the pain turns into fear.
So glad you made it,
Time will never change it,
No, no, no
No, no, no, no

Outside, the sun was setting behind the trees, giving everything a soft glow. Jessie was standing in the middle of the dirt road with 3 bags around her, watching James in his brand new black and red Team Rocket Uniform, as he put another bag in the back on a jeep about 7 metres away. She was holding her hands down in front of her, chewing her bottom lip.

No one said anything. James went back and forth from Jessie until all the bags were packed and James shut the boot of the Jeep. He leaned on the back of the jeep and sighed.

‘This is it’ he whispered to himself, ‘Act like your pleased’.

He turned around and put on a small smile as he walked towards Jessie.

Jessie just stood there and watched him come towards her. He defiantly looked better in his white and red uniform.

Just a little boy,
Big imagination,
Never let no one,
Take it away.
Went into the world
Into the world,
What a revelation,
He found there’s a better way,
For you and me,
To be…

“Guess this is it” he said quietly

“Yep, guess so.” Said Jessie, putting on a very fake smile, yet a beautiful one nevertheless.

“Good luck James”.

She held out her hand for him to take.

James looked at her lovingly. How could he do this? She was his best friend. He didn’t want to go, but he had to. He took her hand and held it tightly.

Jessie held his hand like she would never let go. She felt the tears well up in her eyes. She wasn’t gonna cry. She wasn’t. Not here, maybe when James has gone, but not now. She swallowed hard and held back to tears.

“Thanks Jess.”

He smiled so sweetly at her, she felt the tears coming back.

“Remember me James.” Her voice was nearly cracking.

Look for the rainbow in every star,
Find out for certain,
Loves gonna be there for you,
You’ll always be someone’s baby.

James couldn’t stand this, if he said anything, he knew he would start crying. So instead he nodded slowly and smiled sadly.

After what seemed like eternity, James loosed his grip on her hand. He looked at her one last time. Looking into those perfect sapphire blue eyes, pleading with him to stay. He gathered all the courage he had left and turned his back away from Jessie and walked away towards the Jeep.

Jessie couldn’t move, she couldn’t speak. One, small tear crept down her cheek as she watched James walk away from her forever.

As if in slow motion as James walked, Jessie remembered the times they had together. Chasing that Pikachu and getting shocked by it each time. The plans they came up with which always failed. But it never mattered to her, because she had James there with her. That was all that mattered.

Goodbye my friend
I know you had to leave me but I can still feel ya here,
It’s not the end
You gotta keep it strong before the pain turns into fear.
So glad you made,
Time will never change it no no no,
No, no, no, no
You know its time to say goodbye.

The time on the S.S. Anne when they thought they would die, and James took her hands in his and spoke so lovingly to her, his own way of saying goodbye.

The time with the Ghost at Maiden’s Peak. As soon as he said he didn’t want to go, I realised that something was keeping him back, something made him want stay. That something was her.

And, of course, the time when James had lifted her into the balloon after that unfortunate encounter with his fiancé Jessibelle. The way he looked at her. She could see straight through his soul. If Meowth hadn’t of barged in screaming that they hadn’t picked him up, who knows what would of happened.

The times when we would play about,
The way we used to scream and shout,
Never dreamt you’d go your own sweet way.

At that moment, Jessie knew she couldn’t leave James. She had to have him stay.

In one swift movement, she ran passed James and stood in front of him, stopping him going any further. They stood there face to face, not moving, not saying anything.

Look for the rainbow in every star,
Find out for certain,
Loves gonna be there for you,
You’ll always be someone’s baby

But suddenly, Jessie had a change of heart. Although she didn’t want James to leave, it was the best for him. He would have a better life. p>So instead of blocking his way, she took one step forward and hugged him tight. He put his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head. Jessie wrapped her arms around him and buried her head in his shoulder.

Now the tears came free. Neither one of them could hold them back any longer. They held each other for what seemed like a life time, comforting in each others embrace, not wanting to let go.

Jessie took a deep breath and shuddered the words,

“I don’t know what to say.”

James gently stroked her hair,

“Then don’t say anything.” He replied softly.

Good bye my friend
I know you had to leave me but I can still feel ya here,
It’s not the end
Gotta keep it strong before the pain turns into fear
So glad you made it,
Time will never ever change it
No, no, no, no.

Jessie held him tight one last time and let slowly let go. She looked up at him, and James pulled a rose out of know where. He held it for a moment, and held it out to her. She looked at James, then the rose. She took it from his hand and more tears flowed down her checks. James pulled her close and kissed her forehead. He looked deep into her eyes as he tried to keep the tears back

“I’ll always remember you Jessie. I don’t regret anything. No matter how many times we failed, it didn’t matter to me. We always had each other, that’s all the mattered”

Jessie smiled, remembering she had thought the exact same things.

“I’ll never forget you, I couldn’t.”

He stroked her cheek and looked at her one last time, this time for real. He slowly moved past her, walked back towards the Jeep.

Jessie turned around to watch him as he got in the front seat. He started the engine and looked at Jessie through the interior mirror. She stood there looking at him, the sun now nearly set behind her. She stood holding the rose he had just given her. He squeezed his eyes shut and looked away. As he put him foot on the accelerator and sped away, a single tear rolled down his cheek, knowing that that was the last time he would ever see his Jessie.

You know it’s time to say goodbye,
No, no, no, no,
And don’t forget your candlelight,
You know it’s time, its time to say goodbye,
And don’t forget on me you can rely,

Jessie stood there, watching the Jeep as much as she could until it was out of sight. The sun had set and the stars were shining. No sound could be heard, just the soft rustle of the leaves in the trees.

She looked down at the rose and brought it to her cheek. She closed her eyes, then opened them again to look at the stars. Suddenly, a shooting star flew across the sky.

I will help you,
Help you on your way,
I will be with you,
Everyday,

‘A wish. I can make a wish’ thought Jessie. Several wishes went through her mind. I wish James back here with me, I wish I got promoted so I could be with James.

But, she knew what she really had to wish for. She watched the shooting star and asked it for her wish to come true.

“Shooting star I see so bright, please grant my wish I wish tonight…I wish, I wish that you take care of my James”…

I will be with you everyday…
