Red Hot Chili Peppers: By The Way

By The Way is the latest album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It is a great blend of different styles of music, many foreign to most Peppers albums.

There are styles ranging from ballads to rock to latin on this album. It is actually quite a departure from the Peppers' usual funk-rock assault. There is a lot of beautiful melodic composition on this record. There are synthesizer parts, layers of guitars, and even backing vocal harmonies. It seems a little strange at first, since this is a Peppers album, but you just forget as you get sucked into the record. The tunes are very singable and the album just has a great flow to it. Everything just connects in a great way. This is a very well crafted record.

It is hard to complain about such a great record, but it isn't perfect. There is a lot of ballading on this record, and, although quality stuff, might get a little repetative for some listeners. Also, with the Peppers having one of the best bassists in the business, the record seems to be short on great basslines. The emphasis seems to be on the guitar and synth arrangements. These are really just small problems, and don't affect the record sustantially.

This record is a solid record, and belongs in many a man's album collection. It is a beautiful record, and deserves some attention. Give it a try, I highly recommend it.
