Papa Roach: Lovehatetragedy
Lovehatetragedy is the second album from the band Papa Roach. Their first album, Infest, was a huge success, and this album actually improves on that album in some ways. The band has been lumped in with a lot of other new metal bands, but I think this album will help separate them from the masses of heavy drop-Z clones out there.
Papa's first major release was a huge success, due to some popular singles with a heavy rock edge. They were able to blend metal with some punk and hip-hop flavors, creating a good hard rock vibe. This album takes their musical aspirations even further. On Lovehatetragedy, Papa roach trade in the hip-hop flavor for some real rock and roll adrenaline. More of the songs have solid rock drumming and heavy metal riffage. They also explore a more melodic sound, resulting in some slower, quiet parts. The album retains the emotional lyrics of its predecessor, surely one of the big attractions for many fans.
Although I did like them before, Papa Roach has never been one of my favorite bands, so their progress on this album took me by surprise. I think that they have made a great rock record for fans of the genre to enjoy. They have certainly separated themselves from the legions of other generic heavy bands by showing that they can write good melodies and rock them out, too. If you liked their first record, you should really enjoy this one. If you like a good hard rock experience, also check this album out. It is definitely one of the better releases in the wake of shit like Deadsy, Trust Company, and Korn.
