Former Overlord Distraught Over Tragic Turn of Events

Ex-Emperor Kahn, forced into retirement, now resides on his horse ranch in Arizona.

Arizona Desert - Shao Kahn, the once proud dark lord and emperor of Outworld, is feeling a little more blue than black these days. A few years ago, Kahn lost in the third Mortal Kombat martial arts tournament, forfeiting his reign as Supreme Champion of the tournament and ruler of Outworld. Things just aren't as good for him these days, he says.

"My wife is dead, my kingdom in shambles, and I can't even get my old job back," lamented Kahn. "No one wants a washed up, second hand has-been emperor."

He blames the majority of his woes on his former employees, citing their lack of work ethic that caused his downfall.

"I stumble upon a couple of rough looking guys, help clean'em up, give'em jobs, and they repay me with deceit," snarled Kahn. "Shang Tsung and Quan-Chi turned out to be a couple of back-stabbing bastards. They ruined everything. I had it all, man--a hot babe, a massive kingdom, and I was moving in a new aquisition: Earth Realm. I hired those two boneheads and everything went to hell."

Kahn says that the tournament continues on without him, but it will never be as good.

"They need me. It just won't be the same without me scheming behind the scenes. Last tournament they got some hack named Shittock or something. He couldn't get the job done, not like I could. Besides, I look way cooler than those other stiffs."

Kahn also addressed the common belief that he had died after his defeat in the third tournament.

"Yeah, I pulled some strings on that one," replied Kahn, his face beaming. "I knew I had to make my exit look cool, so I went with some fancy lighting effects. Having everyone think I was dead kept them out of my hair for a while, so that was good. Now I have time to plot my revenge, in case I get another shot at the whole tournament thing."

The ex-dark overlord was also asked what he thought about future incarnations of the tournament.

"Well, everyone knows that the second one was the best, of course, thanks to me. I personally oversaw the recruiting on that one. Top notch, if I must say so myself. As far as a future one, I'm not sure. I hear that Tsung and Chi have some deadly alliance going on or something. If their work for me is any indication, then they'll probably screw something up."

While Kahn remains bleak over the chances of the tournament returning to glory, he seems to hold some optimism over his own career path.

"I'm thinking I'm about due for my own game. You listening Midway? Sub-Zero got his own game, hell, even Jax and Sonya got a "game," if it can even be called that. I'm just too good of a character to let slip through the cracks. I'd also be happy to take over Mortal Kombat again. I know I could bring the fans back to it."

Until a possible future presents itself, Kahn is just going to lay low and "keep things simple," he says. Kahn spends his free time reading, writing poetry, raising horses, practicing martial arts, and writing movie scripts on his Arizona ranch.

"I have moved past my MK career," he confesses, "and I have a new life here on the ranch. While I would welcome new opportunities to be a tyrant again, I've carved quite a niche here with my horses. I love them and they love me. I don't what I'd ever do without them."

Although possessing a somber acceptance of his fate, Kahn admits to relishing memories of his time as emperor.

"Sure, I admit it. Sometimes I just remember the good ol' days, and I get out the old outfit. I put on my spiked armor, speedos, and my skull-mask helmet. Then I throw around a few fireballs and do some shoulder charges for fun. Sometimes I pretend my horses are fighters, like Reptile or Scorpion, and I say 'You Suck,' or 'Don't Make Me Laugh' to them. They know I'm joking, of course."
