"what happened in there?" Nick asked when they got to his car.
"Nothing. I just told her that I still love her, but we need to rebuild the trust. And is it all right if we go visit her tomorrow at four?" Lauren asked him.
"Yeah, that's fine." He said, kissing her on the cheek and driving back to the hotel.
When they got there, Lauren's mother was on the phone talking to Brian.
"Here she is." Brian said handing her the phone. When Lauren picked up the phone her mom was laughing.
"Mom?" Lauren asked.
"Oh hello honey. That Brian fellow is very funny. Well, he told me what happened with Veronica lastnight, and I have something to tell you." She said.
"Yes mom?" Lauren asked.
"Your father and I are going away for the rest of the week, until Monday, which gives you seven days, including today, because today is Tuesday, right?" Her mom asked.
"Yes mom." She answered.
"Well that gives you seven days to be away from home, so tell me where you want to spend those seven days. Oh, and Brian said it was all right for you to stay there."
"Well then here is where I want to say. I love you mom and I'll see you on Monday night." Lauren said, hanging up the phone.
"What was that all about?" Nick asked.
"Well, I get to stay here for seven days till my mom gets back from where ever she's going!" Lauren said, jumping into Nick's arms, feeling very relieved that she didn't have to go home yet.
"What's going on in here?" Howie asked, coming into the living room.
"Lauren's staying here with us for the next week. Her parents are going out of town for a week, so she's staying here." Nick told him.
"That's great Lauren! You know we ALL love to have you around. You're like sunshine on a rainy day with that smile of yours." Howie said, smiling at Lauren. Lauren thought that was so sweet. She looked at him and said "Aww! How that was SO sweet!" She ran up to him and gave him a hug. "We'll all have so much fun this week." She said with a grin ten feet long on her face.
That night, after Nick had taken Lauren shopping for clothes for the next week she'd be there, the six of them were sprawled out on different parts of the living room. Brian and Nick were laying on the floor playing there playstation, Lauren was having a deep conversation with Kevin, and Howie and AJ were practicing a song that they couldn't seem to get right together.
The phone rang right in Lauren's ear and interrupted her's and Kevin's conversation.
"You can pick it up." Kevin told her.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Is this Miss Miller?" The woman on the other line asked.
"Yes it is." Lauren said, slightly worried.
"Veronica isn't doing too well. We're afraid that she won't make it. She wants to see you." The woman told her.
"WHAT?" Lauren asked, her eyes filling with tears.
"We're not 100% sure, but the doctors think she may not make it." She told her again.
"I'll be right there." Lauren said hanging up the phone.
"Nick, can I borrow your car?!" Lauren asked, jumping up. "Trust me Kevin, we'll finish this conversation later." She said slightly smiling. But it faded the minute she thought of Veronica again.
"Babe, what's wrong?" Nick asked.
"It's Veronica. They don't think she's gonna meke it, and she wants to see me. If you guys wanna come you can, I know she won't mind." Lauren assured them. Brian, AJ, Nick, Howie, Kevin and Lauren all piled into the van they had rented when they first came to California. When they reached the hotel, Lauren was crying. When she got to Veronica's room, the doctors were there, and she looked fine.
"Lauren!" Veron called.
"Veron! Are you ok? We rushed over here as soon as we could!" She called.
"She's fine." A male voice told her. She looked over and saw Matt.
"Ugh. Veronica what the hell? Why did you tell the nurse that you wanted to see me, yet HE is here. I don't want to see him EVER again, and you know that." Lauren said.
"I know, I know. I DIDN'T invite him here, and he WILL NOT leave." Veronica said.
Lauren ran to her side. "But that's not the point. Are you ok? We were all so worried."
"Yeah, they said whatever it was that they thought was wrong has passed and I'll be fine, so you go and take MATT and get him out of here, and come here around four tomorrow. Ok?" Veron asked.
"I will. See you tomorrow." Lauren said kissing her on the cheeck and leaving the room. When she found the doctor, she told him that there was someone in Veronica's soom that wouldn't leave, so he went to take care of it.
When they all got back to the hotel, they were pretty tired. "I'm sorry everyone for bringing all this stress into your lives. I know it can't be good for you when you have to go on tour soon. I'm really sorry." She said turning away and leaving the hotel room.
They ALL jumped up and followed her. "LAUREN!" they called.
"Huh?" She asked, turning around.
"Where are you going?" Nick said running up to her.
"I'm going to get a snack from the vending machine, and I need to take a walk. I don't know if I should stay here any longer. I feel like I've made things weird for you guys." She said, putting her head down.
"No, no. Babe, we love you here. It's not you. Trust us. We don't want you to leave." Brian assured her.
"Thanks Bri. You're such a great friend." She said. "You are all great friends and I am so lucky to have met you." She said, they all turned around and went back into the room.
Brian and Nick continued to play their game, Lauren and Kevin continued their conversation, and Howie and AJ continued singing.
That night, while Lauren was in bed, she had terrible time getting to sleep. Once she did, she had strange dreams.
Lauren was walking through a feild again, holding someone's hand. She turned to look at his face, but once again it was blurry. "Oh I wish we didn't have to sneak around like this. I wish I could stand in front of the world and kiss you. When we're with everyone else, we have to be careful how long we look at eachother, and I don't like that." She said to the man she was with.
"I know honey, I know. But you wouldn't want to do that to him, would you? That would hurt him so much. At least this way, we don't hurt anyone. We just need to wait a little longer. But trust me, I wish we could be together in front of everyone too. I love you Lauren, more than anything." The man said to her.
Lauren's head bolted up. She looked beside her, no one was there. She thought of everyone in the house being so sweet to her. AJ and Howie slept in one bed, Kevin and Brian slept in the other bed, and poor Nick decided he'd sleep on the fold out sofa so that Lauren didn't feel uncomfortable. She smiled, then her mind drifted back to her dream. What was that all about? Why do I keep having those dreams? She asked herself. She blew it off again, and fell into a sleep too deep to dream.
