Mandy Moore Tackles New Album, Film Debut by: Robert Mancini

You'd think that with the grind of a budding music career and ever-increasing television work, Mandy Moore's future plans would involve little more than a big ol' nap.

However, the industrious pop confection has set her sights on a new album and her big-screen debut. In the coming weeks, Moore will head to Los Angeles to begin work on "The Princess Of Tribeca," her first film.

"I'm so excited about it, because we're going to be recording the second album around the same time, and it'll be a nice break to get away and still have the music there, since I'll be recording," Moore told MTV News on Wednesday of the project.

"It's a really cool film directed by Garry Marshall, and Julie Andrews is in it, which I'm excited about," Moore elaborated. "Growing up, I did a lot of musical theater, like 'The Sound Of Music' and stuff like that. It's a cool film, and I get to play the really mean, rude, crude, popular girl in school who's always making out with her boyfriend. The one who gets ice cream in her face. It's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to it."

As the young singer noted, work on the film will overlap with the initial sessions for her next album. Moore said that this time around, she is writing more of her own material and is looking to bring in more real instruments in building a sound that is "more to the rock side."

"I'm ready to do something a little different that people wouldn't expect from me," Moore said.

Mandy expects to spend the better part of October and November in the studio working on the album, and hopes to have it completed by January and in stores in March or April of 2001. The album will come on the heels of Moore's recent collection of remixes and new songs, "I Wanna Be With You," and will be her first full-on album since her 1999 debut "So Real."

Moore has also managed to prep for a career in films with numerous TV appearances, including a role on MTV's "2gether," a stint as a spokesperson for Neutrogena, and her own series on MTV.
