Chapter 9

"Yeah! I need to go shopping if I'm going on tour with ya!" Gina exclaimed happily.

Nick laughed along with her as he turned his gaze back to the road. He had never been this happy in his life, not with any girl he had ever dated. Gina made him whole, and he silently thanked the lord for bringing her into his life when he had almost given up on gaining a girl's interest.

three days later, night before the tour departure date. Corpus Christi, Texas

Suzette, Gina's aunt came running into the living room waving a magazine wildly in her right hand.

"Look, everyone! It's Gina! I can't believe how much she's grown over five years!" she exclaimed breathlessly.

Abie, her brother took hold of his sister's shoulders and calmed her down. "What's all this about Gina? We haven't seen her here for years." he said.

"She's the cover model for Seventeen magazine! Isn't she beautiful?" she asked.

Abie took the magazine from her and looked at the cover. "Oh my gosh...You're right, Suzie. She is beautiful. Let's bring this into the family room where mom, Chris, Mia and little Cala are. Too bad dad isn't here. He'd love to see this."

So they went into the family room where their mother was fussing over baby Cala. Chris and Mia were busy chatting about something.

"You guys, can I have your attention please!?" Abie shouted. Everyone in the room quieted.

"Look at this! You won't believe it!" Suzie exclaimed, holding the magazine once more. They all crowded around Suzie and gasped when they saw the young woman on the cover.

"She looks so much like her mother!" Marcella, Gina's grandma exclaimed.

"There's an article, here too." Suzie said excitedly.

"Wait! can I see that for a moment?" Mia asked.

Suzie handed Mia the magazine. Mia looked the picture over critically, then smiled.

"So, this is Selena's daughter, Chris. She's beautiful, gorgeous in fact. She has the potential to be a model if she ever wanted to get into that line of work. Now, can I read the article aloud?" she asked. Everyone nodded. Mia turned to the pages noted, and her eyes widened. Then she smiled happily. There were pictures of Gina with a tall, extremely gorgeous blond guy. Gina was in a happy relationship, and that made Mia happy.

"Today, I was lucky enough to get a chance to chat with Gina, the newest singing sensation to hit the block. She's not like other singers, though, as you'll see for yourselves in our interview. She has dark hair, and happy dark brown eyes that light up whenever her boyfriend comes around. Her voice is incredible, ten times better than Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore and Britney Spears."

"She must really have talent then." Abie noted.

"Anyway, I'll continue now." Mia said. "This almost seventeen year old sweetheart is destined to stay in the pop world for a long time, I can feel it. She hasn't sung in Spanish yet, but hopes to sometime soon in the future. She was willing to hang out with me today, even after she had already gone through four other interviews, but she only smiled and answered my questions honestly. So without further ado, here is the interview."

"Well read it, Mia!" Marcella said excitedly.

Mia smiled. "One question at a time, though." Everyone nodded.

" Q-So, how are you handling this sudden leap to fame? A-"I actually went to the record offices on my own volition. All the stuff I have done this week has been a little overwhelming for me, but all in all, I love it. It's just such a great feeling knowing that I can fulfill my mother's dream."

"She seems really focused." Suzie said.

"She certainly does." Chris said softly.

"Q-Who is your mother, Gina? A-"My mother was Selena. Her fans called her la reina de la musica tejana. I only wish that she hadn't been killed and that I could have had a normal and happy childhood because I became an adult at twelve years old, and I wish it could have turned out differently." Mia repeated, tears coming to her eyes. She looked around and noticed that everyone else in the room was also teary-eyed. She hurried in continuing her reading.
