Prophetic Glimpses -- God's
Invitation
Isaiah 55
Sermon Outline From The Morning Service - 27 February 2000
I. The invitation to share God's blessings (1-5)
A. This is a personal invitation to those who feel the need
1. There is no need to pay for what is offered
a. What is offered is symbolic -- let your soul delight...and your soul shall live.
b. Only God can see the heart and only He can meet it needs
2. Salvation is without price
a. it is invaluable, you can set no price on it
b. the "Seller" has no need of what we can give
c. it has already been paid for by Jesus' blood -- 1 Pet 1:18-19
B. Man is working, seeking, buying things that don't satisfy.
1. Man is using his resources to take care of everything but his most pressing need -- salvation. For Christians, if our Christian lives aren't producing the fruit the Bible promises, we ought to take careful measure of what we are working for.
2. What God offers through Jesus is lasting; "never thirst again."
II. The Requirement (6-7)
A. Seek the Lord -- not wealth, pleasure, ease
B. Call on the Lord -- realizing you cannot do it on your own
While He is near and while He may be found -- if we are sensitive to His working now, pursue it, for it is possible to become "desensitized" to His influences.
C. Forsake your ways and thoughts--turn one's back on old ways
D. Return to the Lord -- 1 Thess. 1:9. Prov. 3:5-6.
III. God's Ways and Purposes (8-13)
A. God is not like we are. We can't, by logic & reasoning arrive at God's conclusions.....therefore we need the Bible! 1 Cor. 2:14.
B. God's Word is not like men's words. His word is effective --Heb. 4:12-13. As we "sow the seed" - God will bring results.
C. God promises joy & peace -- a change from unprofitable & unsatisfying to profit/satisfying. Do you have a "bag with holes?"
