Phil. 2:12-13
Sermon Outine from the Evening Service - 2 January 2000
I. There are no "rests" from the Christian life -- v. 12
A. Christianity is not a Sunday-only business
B. Suggestions on how to "be a Christian" throughout the week
1. Seek God daily in prayer and in His Word
2. Pray before eating
3. Be a law-abiding, conscientious citizen
4. Openly talk of God, how Christ has changed you, and our church
5. Avoid the speech, amusements, practices and thinking of the world
6. Target one person to "work on" -- pray, witness, help...
7. Look for ways to help your "neighbor"
8. Be upright in your business dealings
9. Throughout the day, turn your heart to God (thanks, praise, petitions, fellowship)
10. Express in words how God is blessing, teaching, caring...
II. Complete the work God has started in you -- v. 12 (Phil 1:6)
A. This does not mean working for your salvation
B. Salvation is many-faceted -- justification, sanctification, glorification -- Rom. 8:29; 2 Cor. 3:18
C. God has His purpose in calling you -- find out what it is
D. "Fear and trembling" indicate that this is serious business

III. God empowers you to do His will -- v. 13
