Cortez, Colorado Mission Trip 2001

This summer I went on my third mission trip with my youth group. It was an awesome faith-growing experience for me. Colorado is a beautiful place. I really enjoyed spending time in the mountains. For our mission work I did two days of kids club (like bible school) and then painted a house for two days.

Kids Club

During the first 10 minutes of kids club the first day, a small boy chased me with a 3 inch wide by 3 feet long pipe! I was scared out of my mind, but Craig saved me and stopped the boy.

I had an amazing experince with kids club. To make a long story short, a little six year old girl and I were talking one day and she started telling me about her family. She told about her brother, her mom and then she told me that her dad died a few years ago. Then she continued telling me that he was in heaven with God. I added what a wonderful place heaven sounded like. Then she asked me, what is heaven really like. I was speechless, I didn't know what to say, what words to use. It was incredible. I felt blessed to share my faith and share what I know about heaven. I don't remember everything I said to her, I real think it was God speaking through me. One thing I do remember is that I told her I once read in the bible that in heaven there are gates of pearls and streets of gold! (found in Revalations 21:21) It really strengthened my faith.

Most of the Youth Group that went

This is a picture of pretty much the whole crew, I think there is one person missing and then all the leaders. We had a great time together. Pastor Tim and his Wife Susan went. Along with Ian's mom Valeri Caselli and our youth director Shannon.

T.V. and Noel

We spent one morning visiting with the residents at a nursing home in Cortez. We were all in the dining area and I sat down and starting talking with this guy in a cover-all/jumpsuit type thing. I found out his name was T.V. He was a very interesting fellow and talk about many things over and over again. After about 45 minutes I decided I would talk to a few other residents. I told him nice talking and that I had to get going. T.V. told me I had to go with him to his room first because he had an accordian and he wanted me to see it. I wasn't sure if he really did have an accordian, so I was like alright, lets go see your accordian. Sure enough he did have an accordian in his room, he took it out of the box and played like a 3-4 minute song for me! It was sure a heavy accordian too. After he played it he told me to try to play it an make some noise! How cool, since I have never played an accordian, but just as I was going to play it, someone walked in and told me we had to get going. Ah shucks. But it was awesome that he was so friendly and willing to share what he did have with him at the nursing home. "...The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." ~Galatians 5:6
