Kingdom
Come makes profit - April 22
Fox
Searchlight Pictures' PG-rated urban appeal
comedy drama "Kingdom Come" dropped
two notches to eighth place in its second week
with a estimated $4.7 million (-38%) at 1,111
theaters (theater count unchanged; $4,233 per
theater). Its cume is approximately $16.6
million.
Having cost only about $7 million to produce,
Fox Searchlight should make a profit with
"Kingdom Come."
Directed by Doug McHenry, "Kingdom"
stars LL Cool J, Jada Pinkett Smith, Vivica A.
Fox, Loretta Devine, Anthony Anderson, Toni
Braxton, Cedric the Entertainer, Darius McCrary
and Whoopi Goldberg.
"We feel great about it," Fox
Searchlight distribution president Stephen
Gilula said Sunday morning. "Last weekend
was a big holiday between Good Friday and Easter
Sunday. For the African-American audience those
were very, very big days. Given how well we
opened, we held extremely well. So this is
terrific. We declined less than (similarly
targeted) films like 'The Brothers' or 'Love and
Basketball' last year."
