Rollerball  2001

John McTiernan’s ROLLERBALL takes place in the not too distant future, and the future is fierce. A notorious renegade sport, ROLLERBALL packs arenas all over the world. A global viewership bets and roots for star players Jonathan Cross (Chris Klein), Marcus Ridley (LL Cool J) and their beautiful teammate Aurora (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) who skate and motorcycle past opponents to score. Despite the danger of the game, the real threat lies in team owner Petrovich (Jean Reno) who sacrifices anything and anyone to maximize ratings, which are worth more to him than the final score. In a heroic move, Jonathan and his teammates attempt to expose the corruption and treachery. It is a risky play and the penalty is lethal.

LL Cool J & BT Rap and Rave About Rollerball

Motorcycles and electronic music.

While filming Rollerball in Montreal, LL Cool J took a moment to speak with LL Cool J Online. Although the main subject of the interview is his number one CD entitled G.O.A.T, there are a few Rollerball references. On the day of the interview, LL had a morning motorcycle lesson. When asked about doing his own stuntwork, he told the reporter, “(I do) some of it. I just wanna be able to give 'em something. I'm not gonna go crazy, though!"

And concerning Rollerball’s motorcycle action, a Dark Horizons source reports, “The scenes I saw had LL and Rebecca Stamos going head to head on motorcycles.” The source also offers brief but interesting commentary about the sets and wardrobe.

On a different note, a Los Angeles Times interview with musician BT (Brian Transeau) mentions that in addition to making a cameo appearance in the film, the performer will provide electronic music for Rollerball’s soundtrack.
