John McTiernan’s ROLLERBALL takes
place in the not too distant future, and the future is fierce.
A notorious renegade sport, ROLLERBALL packs arenas all over
the world. A global viewership bets and roots for star players
Jonathan Cross (Chris Klein), Marcus Ridley (LL Cool J) and
their beautiful teammate Aurora (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) who
skate and motorcycle past opponents to score. Despite the
danger of the game, the real threat lies in team owner
Petrovich (Jean Reno) who sacrifices anything and anyone to
maximize ratings, which are worth more to him than the final
score. In a heroic move, Jonathan and his teammates attempt to
expose the corruption and treachery. It is a risky play and
the penalty is lethal.

Rollerball's
Best: The Marauders, the Hawks, the Golden Horde
and the Horsemen
Brief
look at the game's top teams, plus the teaser
poster is released.
Rounding up the recent Rollerball
news, the banners at the official
site, which represent the sport's best
teams, now link to brief summaries for the
Moscow Marauders, the Istanbul Hawks, Siberia's
Golden Horde and the Zhambal Horsemen. Any time
these teams do battle in the Rollerdome it's
always a sellout.
- The Marauders, whose star player is named
Vulk, are referred to as "the tunnel
rats of the Rollerball community."
- The Hawks, billed as "The New Face of
Rollerball," rely on speed over brute
force.
- The Golden Horde, compared to "a
blazing chariot from Hell," features
star players such as Achmed, Uglich, and
Crasher Tower who are fanatically committed
to the game.
- The Horsemen, owned by the devious
businessman Alexi Petrovich (Jean Reno),
have reached "mythical status" due
to the efforts of stars Jonathan Cross
(Chris Klein), Marcus Ridley (LL Cool J) and
Aurora (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos). Other
Horsemen team members include Modo, Pinto,
Denekin, Pile Driver, Edi, and Toba.
Elsewhere, Fandom's
Smilin' Jack Ruby recently scored a very cool
exclusive, the teaser poster for Rollerball
(above). And over at Cinefex,
Joel Hynek and John Sullivan have been added to Rollerball’s
production listing as Visual Effects
Supervisors.
