Chapter 7

A few months later, I was standing outside the church doors. It was Nick's and my wedding day and I was so nervous. I was wearing a long white, thin strapped lacy dress. On my head was a veil with baby's breath and lilies of the valley. In my trembling hands, I held a bouquet of white roses. I looked at the people who were there and saw Wendy Smock, my Maid of Honor; BJ, Leighanne, and Amanda, my bridesmaids; Aaron, the ringbearer; Angel, the flower girl; Brent, Brian, and AJ, the best men; Jane and Robert; my soon to be husband and our family and friends all looking at me. I smiled and began walking down the aisle towards Nick. Soon, I was beside him. I handed my bouquet to Wendy then Nick and I turned to the minister. The minister smiled at us then directed his attention to the audience.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the joining of April Rae Parker and Nickolas Gene Carter. If anyone objects to the joining of these two, speak now or forever hold your peace." The crowd was silent. The minister continued. "We may now proceed. Who has the rings?" Aaron stepped forward, holding a dark green satin pillow with two rings on it. I took Nick's and he took mine.

"April, will you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? Will you promise to love, honor, and cherish him for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live?"

"I will." I slipped the ring onto Nick's finger then looked up at him, smiling.

"And will you Nickolas, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you promise to love, honor, and cherish her for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live?"

"I will." Nick slid the ring he was holding onto my finger then looked at me.

"And now, by the power invested in me, I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride." I felt Nick rest his fingers on my waist. He bent his head and kissed me tenderly. I wrapped my arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. We pulled away slowly then smiled at one another.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Nickolas Gene Carter." Wendy handed me my bouquet then smiled at me, mouthing, 'Congratulations'. I smiled back at her. Nick took my hand in his then led me up the aisle. We were now joined for life and it was a wonderful feeling. Once we were outside the church, we were bombarded with birdseed. Quickly, we got into the limousine and were wisked away to our house, which was where the reception was being held.
