Tokyo Interviews

Good Morning America (03.29.00)

I heard rumors that NSYNC was going to be on GMA again and I couldn’t believe it. I kept telling myself that they were just on GMA, why would they be on again? Anyways, I decided to wake up and tape it just in case they were on. Thank goodness for me! So they appeared at the end of GMA and they were being televised via satellite from Tokyo, Japan. They were in Japan! I thought JC and Joey looked really tired! Those boys need their rest. I hope they get some well deserved R&R when they return to the states! They talked about the record breaking 2.4 million album sales in their first week and Justin said, “We make ‘em, they break ‘em.” That was cute. Then Charlie mentioned the fact that they recently appeared on GMA before the CD was released and after appearing on their show, they sold 2.4 million units in the first week and said they should have a cut of the profits. I personally think GMA will have to wait behind MTV…LOL. If any media organization deserves profits from NSYNC’s sales it’s MTV. But it’s NSYNC and I’m sure any time MTV plays anything NSYNC, they’re ratings skyrocket…so it’s a mutually benefiting relationship. Well, Joey said to talk to their manager and Chris started pretending they were breaking their connection. It was pretty funny. He asked if there was any significance to the title, “No Strings Attached” and Justin said “It’s a statement.” Chris said there are a lot of stereotypes associated with them and they are trying to break free from that. JC also said that the album was NSYNC, “Pure NSYNC.” They left with Charlie trying to make a deal with them about getting some royalties, and they all pretended they couldn’t hear him.

MTV News with Brian McFayden on TRL

Brian McFayden got to talk to NSYNC via satellite from Tokyo as well and he asked them if they felt they were out of the shadows of the Backstreet Boys and Justin said, “I don’t think we felt we were in their shadow. We were just doing our own thing.” Great answer Justin! JC said that the album itself was a victory. He said, “We fought to release the album so the album alone is a victory. Everything else is gravy.” And Chris ended by saying, “But it’s some pretty good gravy.”

Later Today

They were also on Later Today. Geez! The boys leave the country and they do more television appearances in one day than they do in a week! LOL! In the beginning of the show, the three hosts talked about NSYNC and Jody said that they are "bigger than their pals, the Backstreet Boys." They also showed footage of the guys signing autographs at the Virgin Megastore signing.

They showed them with the Japanese screen in the back again. Right in the beginning Lance made a really cute face. The girls in the audience were screaming and JC said, “There’s a party going on,” and Joey said, “Konichiwa.” Hahaha! They’re all just multi-lingual now! They couldn’t see the audience so Jody said that everyone there looked like Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford. She asked them if it was past their bedtime and Joey said his mom hadn’t called yet, so no. She asked them about being confident that the CD did as well as it did, and Chris said that they were confident in the fans. He said they just make the CD, it’s the fans that buy them, so they should get some kind of plaque. That was sweet of him to say that! They also talked about the $1100 French toast and Chris goes, “We’re never going to live that down.” Jody said that he could sell a piece of rice krispy treats that he ate, then they could talk about that. Justin was saying that it wasn’t anyone’s French toast and no one ate it. But the money the girl gave Z100 would be given to charity, so they gave the girl tickets to their show and backstage passes. He’s like, we’ll get to meet the “French toast girl.” Okay, very reason I would never want to be her…I’d forever be known as the “French toast girl.” They were talking about how she got cheated and Justin said we’ll sit down and have some French toast and trade plates. Chris then said, “He knows how to woo the women.” She asked about parent’s or uncle’s and aunt’s who might be watching them right now on Later Today, and what did they want to say to them, and they started talking about stereotypes and Lance said, “Everyone is our target audience.” Then she said, well, sell yourselves to me…what’s so great about you guys,” and Chris goes, “Do we have to beg?” That was funny. Joey said, “What you see is what you get,” and while he was talking Chris was making fun of Joey’s hair. Then they were talking about the title of the album and Justin said that the title clarifies their situation. He said, “We wanna boldly,” and Chris and Joey cut in and say, “go where no man has gone before.” Then Justin turned around and said, “Will you let me talk? Geez!” Then he turned to the camera and said, “Naw, I’m just kidding.” Jody was funny and said, “I think Lance needs to let you all talk more.” They were talking about getting away from the “boyband” stereotypes and Lance said, “We weren’t put together, and we didn’t go to a boot camp.” At the end, Jody goes, “Lance gets the last word,” and Lance goes, “I do?” The she goes, yup and that was it. Then Lance goes, “Thank you!” and the guys started laughing. Then Chris goes, “Man of many words.” That was cute. Then she said thank you and bye and said, “Bye, bye, bye.” The guys in turn said “Bye, bye, bye” and Lance even did the motion. What a dork! But he was cute. At the end you could hear Joey say, “Thank you Jody.”

So that’s it for the March 29,2000 appearances the guys made via satellite from Tokyo, Japan.
