What kind of Aussie would I be if I didn't start off with the greatest food of all? Yes....Vegemite! For all those non-Australians out there that can't figure out what all the fuss is about and think it tastes horrible, please try spreading it thinly instead of slopping it on like peanut butter! Not only does it taste good, but is extremely healthy for you. I believe we wouldn't have become the super power we are today if it weren't for Vegemite !

Yes...I believe Fish and Chips originated in the UK, but I've heard from several reliable sources that we make them tastier here. Fish and Chips has been the Friday evening dinner for millions of Australians for as long as I can remember. Nothing is better after a long week of work, than to buy some Fish and Chips, go home (or to a park) and just "hoe" into them. Some people enjoy squeezing lemon....or even pour tomato sauce (ketchup)onto them.
But me....I love them just the way they are!

Meat Pies are probably the best known lunch time meal here. Nothing is easier or perhaps cheaper, then to buy a Meat Pie for lunch. They come with a wide variety of meaty fillings (and vegetables) and any kind of sauce will do nicely. But being the kind of guy I am, I like them just as is.
Try one.....you'll love it!

The best home baked bread in the world would have to be Damper. Probably best baked outdoors over a camp fire....this is one meal I love to spread with butter and/or jam. Very filling and always leaves you wanting more!

Cookies are just cookies. But you haven't tasted the best until you try our Anzac Cookies. I won't bother revealing the recipe that goes into making these delightful munchies (as there are lots of websites that will explain how to do so). But let me say these are how we say..."Dinki Di"...and very yummy!

Lamingtons are delicious! So soft, so sweet, so rich, so filling. When people knock on your door selling them by the dozen, you would be a fool to knock them back. Sprinkled with coconut.....they are probably the best Australian dessert meal. Try just one and you will be hooked for life!

There is another traditional Aussie food that is quite famous here...legendary in fact. Been a delight for thousands of years and has saved many people from starvation throughout our brief history here.
Probably tastes best uncooked.......Yummy!

MANY thanks to Bill and Joanne's Fabulous Adventure page for letting me use some of their pictures. They're great people and their page is pretty cool too! Check 'em out when you get the chance!
