Aaron Carter is just a punk at heart.
He may be pop's cute-as-pie pre-teen heartthrob, but that doesn't stop him from blaring the Offspring from his stereo.
"They're my favourite band," declares the pint-sized singer during an interview from his home in Florida.
"I haven't seen them yet, but I really want to."
The 11-year-old brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter probably won't be dyeing his hair or getting tattoos anytime soon, he's much too busy becoming a star in his own right.
With top 40 hits like Crush on You, Crazy Little Party Girl and Shake It, Carter is embarking on his first headlining Canadian tour, which stops at Cowboys for two shows at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Carter performed in Calgary last year, opening up for the Backstreet Boys at their Saddledome show.
He says one of his most embarrassing moments so far came when he and the band were leaving their hotel.
"It was snowing and there was some ice on the sidewalk," he recalls.
"There were a lot of fans outside the hotel, so we were running and I slipped and fell on my back. Whooaah! Pow!
"All the fans were like, 'Are you OK?'
"But I just kind of laid there in a daze."
Although Carter's schedule has been growing increasingly busy, he was able to spend the holiday season with his family.
Two of his favourite gifts he received was a new dog and a bird.
Talking excitedly into the speaker phone, the mop-topped performer proudly boasts about the new addition to the family's already large menagerie of pets.
"We have a zoo!" he exclaims.
"We have one iguana, one bird, a parrot, three dogs, six cats, two turtles and 100 fish!"
Carter then rattles off the names of all the pets -- minus the fish -- while trying to keep his golden retriever from stepping on the phone.
When asked if he wants any more pets, his mother Jane Carter -- who penned a book about Nick's rise to fame -- laughs from across the room: "No more pets!"
Being a young pop star has a lot of perks, but Carter seems more content to sit at home playing Nintendo and collecting his beloved Beanie Babies.
When the Sun last talked to Carter, he mentioned he only had two of the stuffed toys.
His collection, which is kept in his bedroom, has ballooned to more than 200.
"I have a lot of Collector Beanie Babies," he says.
"But the one I'm looking for now is a Maple Bear.... The Canada one. I've been looking for that one for so long."
