On Saturday, 13 year-old Aaron Carter brought his party to M (the club formerly known as Metropol). Though he is the younger brother of the youngest Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter, Aaron doesn't need his brother's fame to make it as a performer. His energetic pop music and choreography attracted fans of all ages who flocked to the Strip District to wait in line for hours to see A.C. live. Aaron Carter
I learned a valuable lesson: M is not a place for little kids and their parents. I know Aaron's fans are mostly of a young age, but it's not necessary to take a three or four year old to a club with "festival seating" -- that is, standing room only. Two of the youngest kids I saw were asleep in their mothers' arms before the doors opened.
The adults, however, were worse than the kids. Some stood with their kids for hours before the doors opened. They were very protective of their spots in line, yelling at anyone who might come close to getting in front of them. Others cut in line with friends who had been waiting all day. A few parents seemed oblivious to the fact that there were no seats. Concerts at Metropol (oops, M) have much calmer, friendlier crowds when it's just a bunch of teenage girls without their parents.
The show itself was fabulous and extremely entertaining. Around 7 p.m. the first of two opening acts came out on stage. Code 5 is a five-member male vocal and dance group comprised of David Jr., Casey, Jahmal, Khail and Jermaine. They did a great job of getting the crowd going and were especially exciting when they sang right to the girls in the front row.
Next came Tik N' Tak, a six-member girl band from Helsinki, Finland. The band consists of guitarist Emilia, bassist Mimmu, keyboardist Nea, guitarist Noora, lead vocalist Petra and drummer Tuuli. They sang songs from their debut album, "Friends," which will hit stores in April. Song included "Don't Turn Back," "Upside Down," "I Need Your Touch" and "Why Girls Cry." Tik N' Tak are very talented and I feel they will go far in the music business.
At about 8:10 p.m., Aaron came on stage with his song, "Life's a Party," from the "Rugrats in Paris" soundtrack, followed by "Bounce" from his current album, "Aaron's Party." "Tell Me What You Want" was dedicated to all the girls in the audience, and the always enjoyable "I Want Candy" was a big hit with the fans. The next song, "Shake It," came from his self-titled debut album and had everyone, well, shaking it."
Aaron's four dancers, one of whom is from Pittsburgh, were featured while he changed. Upon his return to the stage, he sang "Real Good Time" and his latest single, "How I Beat Shaq," which ended with Aaron in a No. 34 Lakers jersey. To end the show he invited his friends from Code 5 back on stage to join him for "Aaron's Party." He definitely knows how to throw a great party!
While everyone was getting ready to exit, a towel that had been wiped across Aaron's head was thrown into the audience. A fight broke out between five or six teenage girls. I'm talking about pulling, pushing, rolling on the floor and crying. It was unbelievable. It took security a few minutes before they came to break it up. I was in shock at the immature behavior of these girls. What do you expect if these were the daughters of parents who had been yelling and complaining and fighting in line outside?
Regardless of the hostilities, the show was amazing and I enjoyed it very much. Aaron put on a terrific show as did Code 5 and Tik N' Tak. I hope everyone else who was in attendance had as much fun as I did.
