'He's got what it takes,' says fan

John, Paul, George, Ringo - and Aaron.

It was a long way from New York's Shea Stadium or the Ed Sullivan Theatre, but screaming fans of an 11-year-old phenom took part in some Aaron Carter-mania yesterday at Cowboys Country Saloon.

"It's hard to explain but he's got what it takes to be big and popular like the Beatles," said 16-year-old Shannon Secord, who arrived at the front of the line at the west-end nightclub at 4:30 a.m. to secure her nine-year-old sister Shiloh a front-stage spot to see the pint-sized man of her dreams.

The little brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has the staying power to have a long career, say the teens who plan to follow him through it.

"Whoa!" said Aaron, giggling about the Beatles comparison before taking the stage in front of a sold-out crowd of 750 about an hour late yesterday afternoon.

"I walked over the street they took the picture on in England," said Aaron.

While he knew of Abbey Road, he couldn't name one of the Fab Four and was stumped when the name Ed Sullivan came up.

"I've heard of Evel Knievel," he said, calling his rise to fame and popularity with the girls "just weird."

Stephanie Valila, 18, said it's all about his music.

"It's not about the age," said Valila. "I'm 18, I'm not ashamed to be here. It's worth your money."

Neither was "thirtysomething" mom Gail Andrews, who only likes the music her daughters listen to.

Even Cowboys manager Dave Ozubko got in on the excitement.

"He's cute," joked Ozubko with the teens. "I like Nick myself."

Inside, the bar usually stocked with liquor showcased different flavours of potato chips and the beer coolers were full of bottled water to soothe the throats of screaming fans like Courtney Andrews, 13.

"I'm probably going to bawl my eyes out," said Andrews.

Aaron also appeared at Planet Hollywood in West Edmonton Mall last night.
