Teen pop stars Aaron Carter and Samantha Mumba will join the ranks of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and BBMak as the latest singing sensations to be featured on DISNEY CHANNEL's popular "In Concert" series.
"Aaron Carter & Samantha Mumba In Concert" tapes in February 2001 at the Disney-MGM Studios theme park at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and will premiere on DISNEY CHANNEL in March 2001. The all-new music special will allow fans to catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lives of these rising young recording artists in this exclusive nationally televised concert special.
"DISNEY CHANNEL is proud to feature two hot, young rising pop stars in our latest 'In Concert' music special," said Tina Treadwell, vice president of talent and alternative programming. "We are always looking to showcase new and talented artists who kids can both relate to and emulate. Aaron and Samantha succeed in both areas, not to mention they are sure to bring kids an amazing hour of music and fun." DISNEY CHANNEL has built a reputation for highlighting today's most prolific artists with its "In Concert" music specials featuring Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, BBMak, LeAnn Rimes, *NSYNC, Youngstown and a special "Holidays In Concert" featuring Shawn Colvin, Tatyana Ali and *NSYNC. Most recently, DISNEY CHANNEL teamed 98 Degrees and Hoku for "98 Degrees & Hoku In Concert" which premiered in October 2000 on DISNEY CHANNEL.
Jive Records recording artist Aaron Carter made an impressive debut at No. 16 on Soundscan's current album chart only days after having both the home video for "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)" and his first single of the same title certified Gold by the R.I.A.A. The home video debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Music Videos chart on Aug. 29, and the single remained at the top of the Hot 100 Singles Chart.
In his short time in the music business, Aaron has already opened for Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, performed on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" and "Good Morning America," and appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. His Platinum album, "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)" was released in September 2000.
It's an uptempo album that incorporates pop, soul, R&B, salsa and reggae, and it's all about how to have a good time. From his catchy rap title song and the thick funk cheer of "Bounce," replete with a Latin-flavored countdown and a salsa-fueled backbeat, to the celebratory rhythms of "Real Good Time," "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)" is a rich and spirited pop record that sizzles with a lively buoyancy.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, A&M Records' Samantha Mumba is an 18-year-old singing sensation whose father is Zambian and mother is Irish. Her debut album "Gotta Tell You" is a supremely confident collection of pop-inflected R&B tracks that finally proves Europe can match the super-slick, ultra-catchy efforts of TLC, Brandy and even Britney Spears.
Her debut single, "Gotta Tell You," takes off on the back of an aggressive guitar hook, gets straight in your head and refuses to leave you alone. Other songs include the ballad "Never Meant To Be," the bass-heavy club anthem "Baby Come On Over," and lilting, relaxed "Isn't It Strange."
In addition, Samantha co-wrote seven of the twelve songs on her album, which, after only two weeks in stores, jumped from No. 20 to the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. Samantha has made quite a splash in the United States, getting raves from USA Today, Time Magazine and People Magazine.
"Aaron Carter & Samantha Mumba In Concert" will be produced by Palomar Productions in association with DISNEY CHANNEL.
