Backstreet Will Be Back

Towards the end of 2001 rumours began to circulate the Backstreet Boys were about to split. Here at Smash Hits we also thought that the biggest selling boy band of all time had reached the end of the road.

A greatest hits can often mark the end of an artist's career and there was talk of each member working on solo albums. All very worrying, but now fans worldwide can breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Howie has told the American music magazine Billboard that the guys are about to start work on the follow up to Black And Blue. He stated, "We'll probably record for the next three or four months and put out the album in around September." Songs have been written which may take the group in a new direction. Howie stressed that that they are keen to try something different and be a little more experimental.

The bonus news for all Nick Carter fans is that he is the only member of the group who hasn't shelved his solo project. He's already begun work on his own album, but it's likely that the next group album will appear first.

Howie and Kevin are also still looking to break into acting, but it seems (for now) that music remains their focus. Howie is keeping himself busy by also producing the debut album by his sister, Pollyanna
