As science has proven, this planet endured a major catastrophe millions of years ago that obliterated the dinosaurs long before man walked the earth. Once the catastrophic event occurred, it would have caused the planet to have no animals on it until all the the environment was stable again. Science has not been able to fathom the actual cause of the catastrophe, just speculate the cause, but Jesus does give us one possible explanation.
When Satan was banished from heaven because of his transgressions, his followers were banished with him. When they were cast out, they came down as lightning. There's your possible big catastrophe, like numerous explosions all at one time! Since God created heaven on the second day (Gen 1:8), and man on the sixth day (Gen 1:26 - 31), Satan was cast out of heaven before the sixth day, since Satan was sinning from the beginning, meaning his beginning, and God had to renew the earth.
I discovered another piece of information that is very relevant to this subject, and it's in the first two verses of the Bible. It speaks of the original creation then the re-creation.
The earth was without form and void is translated from the Hebrew words: tohu (pronounced to'-hoo) - From an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), that is, desert; figuratively a worthless thing; adverbially in vain:—confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness. and bohu (pronounced bo'-hoo) - From an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, that is, (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin:—emptiness, void. I found the information in the Strong's Hebrew & Greek Dictionaries, by James Strong. Tohu and bohu are also used in (Jer.4:23 & Isa34:11), both cases are the result of transgression of God's laws. Think about it, how can there be a ruin, darkness upon the face of the deep, Spirit of God moving upon the face of the waters, if nothing had been created yet? The book of Ezekiel speaks of Satan's existence in the garden of Eden!
In the Old Testament Satan was traveling back and forth from earth to heaven causing trouble during the time of Job's existence.
We have no knowledge of how long it took Satan and the other angels to be expelled from heaven. Before Adam & Eve chose not to follow God's commandments, a time line was given to them to measure when their punishment would take effect and when their punishment would end. The amount of time they were in the garden before they sinned is unknown.
Before the commandment was given and the sin committed, there would have been no need for tracking time as we know it. Adam & Eve were supposed to be lounging around the garden, being fruitful and multiplying. (Gen 1:28) Once the transgression took place, the Lord shortened the remaining days for his elect's sake (those born in the flesh not those created as a spirit), so they may be saved.
For God, a day is equal to one thousand years and that is why Adam didn't die until he was 930 years old.
Summary: The Bible doesn't contradict science when you have the necessary information to comprehend what is being said in the scriptures. Satan and the other angels were doing their duties (number of years unknown). Satan and some of the angels transgressed and were cast out of heaven like lightening to spend the rest of their existence on earth, even though they are allowed to go back and forth for now. In six days (days as we know it unknown), God repaired what was destroyed on earth after casting out Satan and some of the angels and then created man. Science has shown that man did not live during the different eras of the dinosaurs and the next group of animals that appeared were smaller, meaning man came after Satan was originally cast out of heaven to move to and fro upon the earth. Time as we know it was created once man was created so he could have something to measure once the commandment was given to Adam. A day consists of 1,000 years for God, and He shortened the days for the elects sake. Eve was deceived by Satan and ate of the fruit. Adam also ate of the fruit, even though they both knew they would die the same day if they ate it. (Genesis 3:2-6) Adam & Eve were cast out of the garden and lived a day. According to Daniel's and John's prophesy there will be a war in heaven and Satan would eventually be kicked out of heaven permanently.
I have read other articles pertaining to Satan being kicked out of heaven and they use the name Lucifer instead of Satan. They also reference Isaiah14:12-14 of the Old Testament. During the era that the scriptures were written the word didn't even exist. Lucifer was a Latin term used by the Romans for the planet Venus. How did a Latin word end up in Hebrew scriptures that was written before there was a Roman language? In the Hebrew scriptures the word used to describe the Babylonian King is Helal, son of Shahar, which translates to "Day star, son of the Dawn." It all goes back to translating the Bible into another language. When King James I authorized the translation of the Bible into English, the scholars used versions largely translated by Jerome in the fourth century in which he mistranslated Helal, son of Shahar.
