Love Don’t Cost A Thing

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Skylar looked anxiously at her watch.  He was late… again.  It didn’t always used to be like this.  They used to go away for weekends just the two of them, dinners for two at gorgeous restaurants, or nights in front of the fire just talking.  Other couples were envious of their relationship and with good reason.  It was something to be proud of.  But now, now things were different.  These days all she got was an expensive present and a note.  So there she sat in the restaurant where they had their first date over four years ago.  The only thing to console her was the ruby and diamond ring he had someone deliver to her that afternoon, including a note asking her to meet him.  Skylar noticed the time, an hour late, even for him…. this was a record.

You think you gotta keep me iced - You don't
You think I'm gonna spend your cash - I won't
Even if you were broke,  My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz - I don't
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke,  My love don't cost a thing

JC watched intently as the young woman looked impatiently at her watch.  Never before had he been so entranced by such beauty.  Her long blond hair tumbled down her back as soft tendrils framed her face.  He could see her piercing blue eyes, even from a distance. Even through such beauty, she looked sad.  He longed to see a smile wash over her face.  At that moment, JC picked himself up from the booth he occupied and made his way over to hers.

Skylar started to gather herself along with her belongings together.  There was no use in sitting any longer.  As she stood up she faced a man slightly taller than herself.  “Leaving already?” he asked.  She was taken aback by the stranger, but had to admit, he had her intrigued.  “I was planning on it” she answered.  He smiled and took a step closer.  “How about I join you and you stay awhile?” he suggested.  Skylar couldn’t take her eyes away from his own deep blue eyes.  She nodded and motioned for him to sit down in the seat across the booth from her.  She couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d seen him before, but she was quickly brought back to her senses.  “So tell me, what is a lovely lady like yourself doing having lunch alone?” he asked.  She smiled at his compliment.  “Well, it seems I’m being stood up” she smiled, joking a little.  “I’ve been waiting an hour for my boyfriend and he’s conveniently late…again.” She clarified.  ‘Boyfriend…Damn.’  He thought to himself.  “How long have you two been together…if you don’t mind my asking.” He asked.  “Four years” she answered, smiling.  “Wow, that’s a long time.  Too long to have him stand you up.” He smiled.  Skylar looked up at the stranger.  It was only when she saw him smile just then, did she realize who he was.  He was as kind as they made him out to be, and maybe a little more forthcoming.  She’d play it off for a little, why ruin his fun quite yet?  She quickly recovered from her concealed shock and smiled back at him.  “Ken’s a good guy, but he’s always trying a little too hard.”  Skylar flashed up her right hand to show him the diamond and ruby ring that was wrapped around her ring finger.  “Wow” JC’s eyes widened.  “Yeah… wow.  And I’d love to thank, him if I’d see him.  But this is what happens when your boyfriends’ daddy is rich.  You get presents, as in gifts and not the presence of the boyfriend that gives them.”

When you rolled up in the Escalade
Saw that truck you gave to the valet
Knew that it was game when you looked at me
Pulling up your sleeve so I could see the Rolley bling
Saw you later in the corner booth
Raising up a toast so I would notice you
But your heart's a mess,  Think you outta know
Doesn't matter if you're balling out of control

“So… how’d you two meet?”  he asked.  “Well, I guess it’s your basic millionaire falls in love with poor girl fairy tell.  We went to college together, me on full scholarship and him on a full ride by daddy’s money.”  She sighed.  “He was completely wrong for me, but completely persistent nonetheless.  I never cared about the money, you know.  That kind of thing never phased me.  I mean I guess cause I never had it, it seemed so insignificant.  Does that make any sense?”  she wondered aloud.  “Of course it does”  he said seriously.  There was an odd silence that was filled by Jennifer Lopez’s Love Don’t Cost A Thing on the speaker overhead.  “That’s ironic” JC laughed, his eyes aimed towards the ceiling.  “Ha.  That’s my life in a nutshell.”  Skylar laughed.  “Wishfully a great love song, but most always a ‘go-get-em’ power anthem.”  He laughed, finding her sense of humor irresistible.  She smiled in his direction and almost at the same time her face crumbled as Kendall walked into the restaurant.  “Skylar?  What, may I ask, is going on here?” Ken asked walking closer and closer towards the two of them.  JC and Skylar stood up and faced Ken.  ‘Skylar’… so that was her name.  Funny how he never asked.’  JC thought to himself.  Ken eyed JC as if ready to attack at any moment.  “I think you owe Josh a thank you for keeping me company or I would’ve been out of here a half hour ago.”  Skylar said sharply.  JC looked at her, stunned, as she smiled and nodded, acknowledging she did indeed, know who he was.  “Well, I guess that’s my cue to leave.  It’s was nice meeting you.. Skylar.”  He smiled.  “You as well”  she smiled in return.  Her eyes followed him until he walked outside, too far away to see from her position.  “Baby, I’m so sorry I’m late.  I just got caught up at work and then my sister called and needed me to get Kelly from school….”  He started.  “Ken… Just stop.” She sighed.  I’m sick of listening to excuse after excuse.  That’s not gonna cut it anymore.  We barely see each other as it is, I don’t need to spend the time we do have arguing.”  She finished.  “So… what are you saying, babe?” he asked.  “I’m saying” she sighed.  “I’m saying, don’t let it happen again.”  He nodded and smiled, pulling her close to him until their lips brushed each others.  Pure bliss.  Anything she ever wanted was sitting right next to her in that booth.

All that matter's is
That you treat me right
Give me all the things I need
That money can't buy, yeah
You think you gotta keep me iced - You don't
You think I'm gonna spend your cash - I won't
Even if you were broke,  My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz - I don't
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke,  My love don't cost a thing

“Baby, we got reporters crowding the doors.  What do ya want me to do?”  Kendall screamed.  “Ken, we always have reporters!  Just let them stay there, they’ll get their shot in a little bit!”  Skylar screamed back.  He had no patience when it came to show days.  Skylar rushed around backstage of Hech Stadium to get ready for the concert that night.  It had been four days since her run in with JC, and those days seemed to fly by.  Skylar stepped onto the stage where the guys were due to appear on any second for second.  Kendall admired his girl from afar.  Seeing her in her element was something that turned him on even more than imaginable.  She was the smartest person he knew.  He often wondered what she ever saw in him.  “Hey baby” Ken smiled.  “Lookin’ good!”  he laughed.  She struck a pose and he laughed.  She jumped off the stage to join Ken in the seating areas.  “You’re amazing” he said, pulling her into his arms.  He kissed her lightly on the lips.  “I love you” he smiled.  “I know.  I love you too.” She answered.  Just then she heard lovely sounds coming from the stage.  As she turned around she saw JC.  This time, joined by Chris, Justin, Lance and Joey.  She smiled as she thought back to lunch on Tuesday.  JC was even more mesmerizing in his own element.  Belting out the notes he knew so well, with such a passion that only he could exude.  Skylar continued to watch the sound check as Ken went to finish up some business of his own.  We they finished, Skylar was surprised to see JC jump off the stage and walk toward her.  “So we meet again…”  he smiled at her.  “I don’t think we’ve been formerly introduced.  I’m JC, the guy who harassed you during lunch this past week.”  He laughed.  Skylar smiled and extended her delicate hand.  “And I’m Skylar”  she smiled, looking into his eyes.  “Well I do say, that it is nice to finally meet you officially.”  He smiled.  “Likewise”  she answered.  “So, you must have some pretty good connections to be here at this time, huh?”  he asked.  “I have the best connections.  I work here.”  She laughed.  “Ken’s dad owns the stadium and I head the public relations department.  Seeing shows when I want is a plus.”  He smiled at the beauty in front of him, hanging onto every word that came out of her mouth.  “You should’ve told me I was going to see you again.  I’ve thought about you, ya know.  I was beginning to think it was all a dream.”  JC almost regretted the words as they left his mouth.  Skylar looked a little shocked.  “Mr. Chasez, are you hitting on me?”  she laughed aloud.  Before he had a chance to answer she went on.  “Ya know, you didn’t tell me who you were either.”  She smiled.  “Well, you never asked.”  He defended.  She laughed lightly and he joined in.  He didn’t know what it was about this girl that made him feel the way he did.  He knew she had a boyfriend, and he admitted seeing them together minutes before shocked him, but something about her made him keep coming back for more.

When I took a chance
Thought you'd understand
Baby, credit cards aren't romance
So you're tryin' to buy what's already yours
What I need from you is not available in stores
Seen a side of you that I really feel
Doing way too much, never keep it real
If it doesn't change, gotta hit the road
Now I'm leaving, where's my keys?
I've got to go

At that moment, they were interrupted by another girl, probably around Skylar’s age.  “Sky, I have something for you from Ken.”  Erin smiled at her then at JC.  “Thanks Erin”  Skylar replied.  “Where is he though?” she asked.  Erin turned back around, “I don’t know, there’s a note there though.”  She answered.  Skylar turned back to JC who was still standing over her.  She opened the long, slim box and gasped.  There lie a diamond and ruby tennis bracelet, identical to her ring.  “What is it?” JC asked, looked over her shoulder.  She held up the bracelet for him to look at.  “Well, you know what this means…” she started to say as she opened the note and started to read it aloud.  ‘Dear Sky, Baby, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t be there to see you open this.  My dad called and sent me away on business for the weekend.  I should be back Monday.  I love you, Ken.’

You think the money that you make
Can substitute the time you take
Take the keys here to my heart
Then you can win my heart and get what's in my heart
I think you need to take some time
To show me that your love is true
There's more than dollar signs in you
Then you can win my heart and get what's in my heart

Skylar sat in the seat next to her, and JC sat in the one next to that.  “You ok?”  he asked quietly.  She looked at his caring eyes and smiled.  “I’m fine.  Just Ken being Ken.  I’m used to it.”  She answered.  “Skylar, you shouldn’t have to be used to it.”  He said reasonably.  Skylar looked at him, knowing that he was right.  She sighed.  “Hey Chasez!”  a voice yelled from behind them.  Skylar and JC turned to face Justin, Chris, Lance and Joey with inquisitive eyes.  “Hey guys, come on over her.  I want you to meet Skylar.”  JC said, waving them over.  Introductions between the guys and Skylar were made and the guys excused themselves.  “Do you, um, do you want to go to lunch with me?” JC asked.  Skylar hid her shock and smiled.  “I’d love to.  Not like my boyfriend is here to object.” She said dryly.  “Good.  Let’s go.” He smiled, reaching for her hand.

All that matter's is that you treat me right
Give me all the things I need that money can't buy, yeah
You think you gotta keep me iced,  You don't
You think I'm gonna spend your cash,  I won't
Even if you were broke,  My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz,  I don't
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke,  My love don't cost a thing

“Thanks for lunch, JC”  Skylar smiled, entering his dressing room behind him.  “No problem.  No use in you eating alone.”  He smiled.  Skylar smiled briefly before her face fell.  “Skylar, what’s the matter?”  he asked.  She shook her head.  “I don’t know.  I just get this feeling that something is wrong.  Like, that Ken is fooling around on me.”  She answered.  “Skylar, that’s crazy!”  JC exclaimed.  “Yeah, maybe you’re right.  But he’s been away more than he’s been here lately.  Anyway, I don’t wanna talk about it.  Let’s not ruin a good day.” She said, smiling.  “Ok, your call.”  JC smiled.  “You coming to the show tonight?” he asked.  “Of course I’m coming”  she smiled  “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”  JC smiled, “Well, alright then!  I must insist however, that you come out with us afterward…” he stated.  Skylar smiled “Well, only if you insist”  she said jokingly.  At that moment, Justin came through the door looking around.  “Hey J… what’s up?  Whatcha lookin’ for?” JC asked.  Justin looked a little tense as he look from JC to Skylar.  “Um, I think you better see something…” Justin said, looking at Skylar.  Skylar’s face straightened as she followed Justin out the doors into the main parking lot where she say Ken riding off in his Beemer, a blond passenger to his side.  Skylar ran back into the arena, almost running smack into JC.  JC joined Justin outside.  “What the hell happened?”  JC asked Justin.  Justin sighed and told him what Skylar had just seen.  In no time JC reversed back to his dressing room, finding Skylar on the couch, head in her hands.  “Sky?” JC whispered.  “Are you ok?”  Skylar looked up at JC’s caring eyes.  “No, not really.  But at least I was right.”  She laughed lightly.  “Skylar, he’s the asshole here… don’t forget that.” He said, taking the seat next to her.  As he wrapped his arms around her she collapsed into them, feeling no strength left.  After awhile the two pulled apart.  Before she could say a word, JC lips found her own, lightly caressing them, but with pure desire.

PART II
Don’t Think I’m Not

*************************************************

Amazed as ever, Skylar headed to the back after the show.  She'd never seen such a good show, and she'd seen her share of concerts in the past two years.  "Skylar!" she heard her name in back of her.  She turned around and spotted Justin waving to her.  She made her way over to him and congratulated him on a great show.  "You're still coming with us, right?" he asked.  She smiled and was about to answer.  "Of course she is" JC interrupted, looking her in the eyes.  Skylar couldn't stop herself from being completely overjoyed at the thought of spending even another minute with him.

I don't have to question
Where you were last night
Cause I already know what you will say
I already know you'll lie
But I can't be mad at ya
Cause there's something that you don't know
That when your gone I do my own thing
Can I catch a bone? Why you dogging me?

"Room service?" JC asked Skylar, walking into the hotel room.  JC hadn't wanted to go 'out' that night, but instead enjoy the night in front of the TV and VCR.  Skylar wasn't one to argue, it had been one hell of a day for her as well and she really didn't feel like being alone.  Skylar sunk into the couch as JC dialed the front desk to order food.  Once done, he took the seat next to her.  "Skylar, if you need to talk, I'm here to listen.  You can trust me, ya know." He said.  Skylar looked at him questionably, wondering where this was all coming from.  "I swear Skylar.  If you need a friend, I'm here."  He said.  Skylar looked on as he smiled at her.  "Friends huh?" she asked.  "Of course" JC said, lightly touching her arm.  "Alright.  Then what was that kiss all about back in the dressing room earlier?" she asked, looking down.  JC didn't answer for awhile.  He didn't want to lie to her, but he didn't know if he could tell her the whole truth either.  "JC?" she questioned.  JC shot his head up and met her gaze.  "Truthfully?  I've never been more attracted to anyone than you…" he said.  "When I saw you last week in the restaurant I needed to talk to you.  I've never been that forthcoming in my life!  Then when I saw you again this morning I couldn't just stay away.  You're amazing, Skylar.  And earlier, about that kiss, I'm sorry.  I know I was out of line, but I'm not sorry that I did it."  He admitted.  She sat there a little stunned at first, but regained her composure before any significant amount of time passed.  "JC, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't flattered, but this is just a recipe for disaster."  She said.  "I don't think so" JC reasoned.  "Can you tell me that you didn't feel anything by that kiss?"  he asked.  Skylar looked him straight in the eye.  "JC!  I have a boyfriend!"  she exclaimed.  "This conversation is ridiculous!"  she said, getting up from her seat.  JC quickly got up and followed her, grabbing her arm.  "Skylar, what's ridiculous is that he's cheating on you!  He doesn't deserve you!"  JC exclaimed in response.  Skylar turned around, shocked by his outburst.  "And I suppose you do?" she yelled.  "Let's just say I deserve you a hell of a lot more than he does."  JC said, a little quieter.  "Sky, you kissed me back before.  It wasn’t one sided.  I know you felt something."  He said, now almost in a whisper, stepping closer to her so she could feel his breath on her face.  "And if I did?" she questioned softly.  "What difference does that make?"  JC smiled.  "It makes all the difference in the world."  Skylar lifted her head up until their eyes locked on each other.  JC brought his face closer to hers and she advanced forward placing her lips onto his.  His lips fiercely caressed hers in fear that he'd never feel them meet his again.  Her hands wandered up the front of his body and clasped behind his neck.  His hands rested lightly on her hips, then pulling her closer to him, they clasped behind her back, pinning her to his own body.

When your out in the club, don't think I'm not
Even when your out making love, don't think I'm not
When your feeling good in somebody's spot, getting hot, don't stop
Just don't think I'm not, cause I'm out getting mine

Never ending their passionate kiss, JC and Skylar found their way to the bedroom.  They collapsed onto the bed, JC pinning Skylar and kissing her neck and shoulders.  Skylar smiled as he unbuttoned his shirt revealing his toned chest.  She reached up and brought his face towards hers, once again kissing him passionately.  As the night wore on, nothing but pure desire and pleasure was shared between two people so desperately needing each other.

Skylar woke up the next morning and reached over to the empty side of the bed.  She rose out of the bed and heard voices in the next room.  Slowly, she grabbed a robe and made her way out into the next room.  "Britney?"  Skylar exclaimed, before even getting fully into the room.  Britney looked over and saw Skylar.  "Sky!!"  she exclaimed, running over to greet her with a hug.  "It has been too long girl!  I was hoping to see you with this trip!"  she smiled.  "Well, here I am!" Skylar smiled.  The two girls chatted for a little before they were interrupted.  ::Cough, Cough::  "Which one of you wants to tell us how you two know each other?"  Justin inquired.  Skylar looked over to see five confused looks on each member of the group and couldn't help but laugh.  "I did a show here last year and Sky and I met back then…that's it."  Britney explained smiling.  The two girls walked over to join the guys.  "You didn't tell me that…" JC smiled at Skylar.  "You didn't ask." Skylar smiled.  Britney looked on as they smiled at each other.  She guessed this wasn't the best time to ask about Ken.  Minutes later, Skylar excused herself to take a shower.  "Alright… spill it Chasez."  Britney said, keeping her voice down.  The other four sat quietly waiting for an explanation for Skylar coming out of his room and a reason why he didn't mention it before.  "Look, Sky and I just came back here after the show and one thing led to another…."  JC explained.  "Yeah, one thing led to JC getting some"  Chris laughed.  JC rolled his eyes, but slightly smiled.  "Guys, I'd appreciate just not making a big deal out of this, ok?"  JC asked.  They all nodded and then continued to fill Britney in on the last few days.

When I try to get your attention
You ignore me every time
You were so caught up doing your dirt
That you didn't notice mine
Well I couldn't put up with your scheming
And I couldn't put up with your lies
They say two wrongs won't make a right
But it suited me just fine

"So where'd you run off to the other night?" Erin asked, sitting across the table from Skylar.  "Oh.  Um, JC invited me out with them, so I did."  Skylar answered nonchalantly.  "You two really hit it off, huh?"  Erin asked.  "Yeah, he's a nice guy"  Skylar smiled.  "So… any word from Ken?"  Erin asked.  "Um, no.  But he should be back today sometime.  Erin…"  Skylar started.  "Do you think I'd be totally paranoid if I thought Ken was cheating on me?"  Before Erin could answer, Skylar's cell phone rang.

"Hello?" she answered.  "Hello Skylar, this is Mr. Hech…".  "Mr.  Hech!  What can I do for you?"  she smiled.  "Actually I was looking for my son, I assume he's with you…".  "Um, no.  He's not back yet."  She answered.  "Back from where?"  "From where?  He told me you sent him on a business trip for two days.  I haven't seen him since Saturday afternoon."  She said, worried.  "Skylar, the last thing I want to do is worry you…but I did no such thing.  This weekend is busy enough with those *Nsync boys here.  I'm sure everything is fine, and I'm sure there's a good explanation for this."  "Alright." Skylar said into the receiver not actually believing his positive outlook.  She hung up the phone and looked at Erin who sat patiently for an explanation.  "Well, I guess I should feel better.  I was right."  She said.  "I gotta get some air…  I'll see you later."

When your out in the club, don't think I'm not
Even when your out making love, don't think I'm not
When your feeling good in somebody's spot, getting hot, don't stop
Just don't think I'm not, cause I'm out getting mine

Skylar ran out into the warm spring air.  All of a sudden being indoors felt too confining.  Seeing anyone in that building could make her go crazy.  Everyone thinking Ken was perfect, what the hell did they know?  The inside door opened and JC's worried face peered out of it.  Skylar saw him out of the corner of her eye and smiled.  "I'm over here…" she waved weakly.  JC walked over to her.  "You ok?"  he asked.  "Not really"  she said shaking her head.  "You wanna talk about it?"  he asked.  "I just got a phone call from Ken's father.  Turns out he never sent Ken out on business.  Which means that him and Becky probably had one hell of a weekend."  She said, wiping a tear away.  JC looked on as he watched a girl he cared so much for fall apart with nothing he could do to help.  "Babe, it'll be ok."  He said taking her into his arms.  She collapsed into his strength, allowing herself to be vulnerable to him.  He released and looked at her brushing a loose piece of hair behind her ear.  "Better?"  he asked, smiling.  "Yeah" she smiled, "Can I keep you?"  she joked.  JC's face turned serious.  "For as long as you'd like." He said.  They smiled at each other, only to be interrupted by Ken's car pulling into the space next to them.

Don't be surprised to know that sometime women play the bill
You may not believe it but it's real, the game is so real
So real, So real
Oh, don't think we won't do it
When you're out in the club

"Let go of me!"  Skylar yelled as Ken pulled her into the stadium.  Ken let go of her arm and looked at her just standing there.  "What the hell is your problem?"  she yelled.  "My problem?"  Ken shouted  "Why every time I see you lately you're with him!"  "Well, maybe that's because you don't see me too much lately!"  she shouted back.  "Oh God!  Now I'm going to get a guilt trip for doing my job?  Please Sky!  Give me a break!"  Ken shouted.  "Ok, so speaking of this trip.  Where did you say you were again?"  she asked.  "I told you.  My father sent me to fix a problem over at the other stadium."  He yelled.  "Really?  That's interesting, because your dad called me this morning looking for you."  She said cynically.  Ken looked around, not knowing what to say next.  "Like you cared with JC hanging all over you!"  he accused.  "Don't change the subject Kendall!!  This has nothing to do with JC and you know it!"  she yelled at him.  "Tell me what the hell is going on, and don't you dare lie to me!"  He fidgeted and then looked at her face.  It was glowing red, the way it got when she was truly angry.  She sighed.  "I'm gonna make this easy for you…  Did you, or did you not, cheat on me with Becky?" she asked.  He shifted from one foot to the other, not knowing how to answer.  "Yeah" he said with his head still down.  She sat down in the stadium seat for support.  "How long?"  she asked, not really wanting to know the answer.  "A year"  he muttered.  "A year?  A year?" she yelled again.  "Geez Ken!  Come on… did I really deserve to be strung along like that!?" she yelled.  "And what about you.  JC seems to be clinging to you like glue!"  he defended.  "That's hardly a comparison Ken.  I've known JC for not even a week now!"  she yelled.  "Did you sleep with him?"  he asked loudly.  "That's not the point"  she fluttered.  "It is now!  Did you sleep with him?"  he asked again.  "Yes, I did!  Feel better?"  she yelled.  "No.  But I will after I kick the shit out of him."

When your out in the club, don't think I'm not
Even when your out making love, don't think I'm not
When your feeling good in somebody's spot, getting hot, don't stop
Just don't think I'm not, cause I'm out getting mine

::Bang, Bang, Bang….on the door baby::
JC answered the door and was taken aback to see Ken standing there.  "You've got some nerve, ya know that?"  Ken yelled.  "You think you're all big and mighty cause you slept with my girlfriend, huh?"  he asked, forcing himself into the room.  "Ex-girlfriend"  Skylar corrected walking into the room, standing in between the two of them.  "Ken, get outta here.  You know you can't do this."  Skylar said reasonably.  "I can do whatever the hell I want to baby, it's my building."  He said cockily.  "Fine.  Have it your way, security's on it's way."  Skylar said.  "And believe me, if it comes down between you or them they're going to take you away, baby."  She said with a slightly malicious smile.  "Fine, I'll go.  But just remember who made you darlin'.  You're nothing without me.  No place to live, no money, and by the time I'm through, no place to work either."  He laughed and walked out the door leaving the seven of them only to see his back as he walked back towards his office.

PART III
Talk About Us

*************************************************

I saw you and fell in love.  You saw me and fell in love, too
You and me, we fell in love with each other last night
I told you I was concerned.  You told me of your concerns, too
Yet and still we both decided,  To make love last night
Baby, please tell me

Skylar let the tears run down her face, unable to control them.  "Sky?" JC questioned from the doorway.  Skylar looked over at him.  He looked genuinely worried as he looked into her eyes.  "I thought you'd be out here" he said, walking over to her.  "You ok?" he asked.  She sighed.  "That seems to be the question of the day" she said., wiping away a few stray tears.  "JC, I don't want to be rude, but I really need to think everything through alone.  I don't know what to think about this thing between me and you or me and Ken…." She trailed off.  "Skylar, this 'thing' between you and me is wonderful.  I told you two days ago that I never felt this way about anyone in my life.  That's still true.  My feelings for you haven't changed."  He admitted.  "As for you and Ken, I can't answer that.  But after what he did, why would you even question your decision?"  he asked.  Skylar's eyes widened as she looked at JC.  "JC, Ken and I were together for four years.  That means something to me."  She said, shocked.  "Yeah, well, it's didn't seem to mean anything to him."  JC said under his breath.  Skylar stood up,  "How dare you!  Ken took me in when nothing in my life was right.  We have been through everything together.  You come into my life for a week and think you know all about me and my relationship!" she yelled.  "Skylar, why are you yelling at me?  I didn't do anything here!"  JC yelled back, standing up.  "Are you forgetting that he cheated on you?" he asked.  Skylar shot her head towards JC.  "Well, then I guess we belong together after all.  Or are you forgetting that I cheated on him too."  She shot at him.  "And I suppose I'm to blame for that?"  JC questioned.  "You knew I was vulnerable…"  she said.  JC shook his head.  "I don't believe this" he muttered.  "Look, JC, I don't blame you, ok?  But it was a mistake.  That's all it was.  What we did was a mistake."  She said flatly.  JC looked at her in disbelief.  ::Ring, Ring::  Without taking her eyes away from JC, Skylar picked up her phone.  "Hello?" she answered.  "Skylar, it's Mr. Hech.  I need to see you right away." He said.  "Of course.  I'll be right there." She said, hanging up the phone.  She started towards the door and JC grabbed her arm.  "Sky, we have to talk about this."  he pleaded.  "It's over JC… it's over." She said without even turning around.  He loosened his grip on her and watched her walk through the stadium door.

Where do we go from here my love
What are we doing baby.  Boy you gotta let me know
Why can't we live the way we want
I want the world to know.  I just gotta let it show
What do we stand to lose
If being together,  Is what we choose
Oh my love,  I think that we should talk about us

Skylar had been sitting in Mr. Hech's office for the last hour.  "Skylar, look.  The last thing I want is for you to leave.  You've done too much for us for you to leave."  Mr. Hech explained.  Skylar looked up surprised.  "You mean you're not firing me?" she asked.  "Skylar, Ken may be my son but I know he's no angel.  I understand that you and him will have to work together and that it will be awkward, but you will not loose your job over this, despite what Ken may tell you.  Skylar smiled.  "I appreciate that."  She said.  "Alright.  It's settled then."  He smiled.  "Now go on and get outta here.  We got a concert to get ready for."

"What do you mean she left you?"  Justin asked.  "She said we were a mistake and said it was over."  JC said, rubbing his face with his hands.  ::Knock, Knock::  Justin got up to answer the door.  He opened it to reveal Skylar standing there.  At the sight of her JC stood up.  She looked right passed him as she spoke.  "Brit, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked.  Britney got up from her seat without saying a word, followed Skylar outside.  Both girls were quiet for awhile until Skylar broke the silence.  "So, I guess he told you?"  she said.  "Yes, he did."  Britney said shortly.  "Do you think what I did was wrong?"  Skylar asked.  "I can't answer that"  Britney said quietly.  "Only you know what you feel, Sky."  Skylar sighed.  "Look, it's not that I don't have feelings for JC.  It just wouldn't work.  I can't leave here, it's home."  She explained.  "Skylar!  He'd never ask you to!"  Britney said, excitedly.  "You know that I like Ken.  You two were great to me when I was here last.  But I can't imagine why you would want to go back to him after what he did."  She said.  Skylar looked towards the ground.  "I don't plan on going back to him, Brit.  But I just can't pick things up with JC.  No matter how Ken hurt me, I'm not over him.  Being with JC would numb the pain, but I'd be stringing him along, and he doesn't deserve that."  Skylar said.  "Look, Sky.  You're a good friend.  So is JC.  You're both hurting right now and I understand that.  But I think he deserves to know exactly what you told me.  I know him pretty well, he's a good guy, Sky.  And you're right, he doesn't deserve to be strung along.  But he likes you… a lot.  He deserves to know the truth."  Britney reasoned.  "You're right"  Skylar said.  "Thanks Brit."  Britney nodded and smiled.  “Of course, what else are friends for?”

Could this be a crazy dream
And if so then you're dreaming too
'Cause I know for sure that
You feel the same as I do
Could it be that we could be wrong
Even though we're feeling so right
I don't care because I know
That I want you tonight.  And I know you want me too

Britney walked back into the dressing room with Skylar following behind her.  JC stood up again, looking at Britney and not seeing Skylar in the doorway.  "What did she say"  JC asked Britney.  Before Britney could say a word, Skylar spoke up.  "She needs to talk to you…"  Skylar said.  JC shot his head towards the door.  Seeing Skylar standing there made his heart jump out of his chest.  "Can we talk?" Skylar asked.  JC nodded and followed Skylar back outside.  "We seem to be out here a lot"  JC mused.  "Yeah, I guess we do."  Skylar said quietly.  She swallowed the lump in her throat.  Hiding her feelings for the man in front of her was easier said than done.  But this was what she had to do before both of them got hurt in the end.  "JC, I need to apologize for how I treated you earlier.  I was wrong."  Skylar said, still not looking him in the eye.  JC's eyes widened and he took a step toward her, his mouth forming a smile.  As he got closer she raised her hand and took a step back.  JC stopped and gave her a confused looked.  "I meant what I said, JC.  This, us… I can't do it."  She said, finally looking straight at him.  It was now his turn to swallow the lump in his throat.  "I don't understand,…" he said.  "JC, Ken and I were together for over four years.  I don't want to be with him anymore, but I can't be with anybody else right now either.  It really wouldn't be right, for either of us."  She said.  "Do I get a say in this?"  JC asked.  Skylar looked at him, unable to stop the tears from streaming down her face.  JC stepped towards her, wiping away the tears as they fell from her eyes.  He brought his face towards hers, meeting her lips with his.  He gently caressed her lips with his own.  His arms pulled her into him, wanting her body against his as close as possible.  She didn't pull resist his lips on hers.  His breath felt warm against her face as they parted.  Their eyes met and her arms fell from his shoulders down to her side.  "JC, please understand I can't be with you."  She said in a quiet voice.  JC release his embrace and stepped back.  "Is that what you want?"  He asked softly, still looking at her.  Adoring her.  "I don't know." She bit her lip.  "But I know that I have to be by myself.  At least for awhile."  She said.  JC nodded.  "Ok…" he said.  "If you need time to realize that you and I are too good to give up, you got it.  But please promise me you won't forget about what is between us.  Because there is something Skylar, whether you'd like to believe it or not."  "I promise,” she said, choking on tears as she turned her back towards JC.  JC put a hand on her shoulder, but quickly removed it, not wanting to cause either of them any unnecessary pain.  "You're coming tonight aren't you?"  He asked.  Without turning around she shook her head.  "No, I have to get my stuff from home and move it into Erin's."  She said.  "I see."  JC said.  "So, this is it, huh?" he asked.  "Yeah, I guess it is."  She said, muffled by tears.  "Are you going to look at me?"  He asked.  She slowly turned around, revealing her tear-stained cheeks.  "Happy?" she asked softly.  "Far from it…" he said, turning around and heading back inside, leaving her standing alone, just as she'd asked.

Six Months Later
"Sky!  What do you want me to do with all these reporters?!"  He yelled.  "Ken!  What do I always tell you?  Let them wait out there, they'll get their shot soon enough."  She yelled, laughing all the while.  In the past six months her life had been turned upside down and side ways.  A job promotion from head of PR of Hech Stadium to head of PR at Hech Inc. left her at the top of her own game and loving every minute of it.  "You wanna go for lunch?"  he asked, jumping off the stage.  "No, I have a few things to take care of here before I do anything."  She answered.  "Thanks though."  She smiled.  She walked into the back, smiling as the back seemed more organized than usual.  "Skylar?"  a voice yelled from behind.  Skylar turned around, startled.  That's when she saw him walking towards her.  "JC?" she smiled.  JC headed right towards her, only stopping inches before her face.  They paused briefly before taking her eyes off each other.  "You look wonderful"  he smiled.  She blushed at the compliment.  "Thank you.  You look good too."  She smiled.  She couldn't keep her eyes off of him.  He was even better looking than she had remembered him.  Thoughts of the last time they'd seen each other came flooding back into her memory, which she quickly pushed away.  "I wasn't sure I'd see you.  Britney told me of your promotion and all."  He smiled, still staring into her eyes.  She didn't mind his eyes pouring into hers, she couldn't think of a better excuse to keep her eyes on him as well.  "Yeah, well, you know.  I come for the good shows."  She smiled.  "Good shows, huh?"  he teased.  She smiled back at him, wanting so much to be able to do more.  "Would it be too weird if we got together after the show tonight?"  he asked.  Skylar laughed.  "I'd, um… I'd love to."  She smiled.  "Good.  We got six months to catch up on."  He said.  "I'll um… catch up with you later.  We got a sound check to do."  He said smiling.  "Alright."  She said, watching him walk away.  "JC!" she yelled.  He turned and without saying a word.  "I'm glad you're here." She admitted.  He smiled.  "Me too, Sky.  Me too."

You see all my live I've waited
Waited all my life
Just to be with someone like you

Where do we go from here my love
What are we doing baby.  Boy you gotta let me know
Why can't we live the way we want
I want the world to know.  I just gotta let it show
What do we stand to lose
If being together,  Is what we choose
Oh my love,  I think that we should talk about us

"So, what'd you think?"  he asked.  "You guys were wonderful.  You're always wonderful."  She said smiling.  "I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."  He said.  Skylar unlocked the door to her apartment and pushed it open, allowing JC to enter.  Feelings of dejá vue haunted both of them, though neither of them acknowledged them.  "How long are you in town for?" she asked, sitting in the seat next to him on the couch.  "A few days.  Just like last time."  He said.  "Last time…" she started.  "Sorry.  I didn't mean to bring up bad memories."  He said softly.  "JC… the only bad memory I have is how we… I, left things.  I'm sorry I hurt you."  She said.  "Nothing that six months of therapy couldn't fix" he said nonchalantly.  Skylar's eyes widened.  "JC, please tell me you're kidding…"  she asked.  He laughed.  "Yes, I'm kidding.  You're hard to get over, but I don't think even a professional could've helped me through that."  he said.  She moved closer to him, so he could go no where, but closer to her.  "JC… do you think… that 'us'… could have another try… wait… before you answer that… just let me…"  without finishing her words she closed any distance between the two of them, meeting his mouth with hers.  Kissing him gently, feeling that fire that they'd once shared.  As they pulled away he sat there, beaming at her.  "Do you know how long I've been waiting for that?"  he asked.  She smiled.  "Is that a yes?" she asked.  JC leaned in once more catching her lips with his, satisfying his earning desire.  "Yeah, that's a yes."  He whispered as they parted.  Just as quickly he got up from his seat and turned the radio on, finding a beautiful, slow melody.  "May I have this dance?" he asked, extending his hand toward Skylar.  Skylar accepted graciously, stepping into his extended arms.  They moved slowly to the music with her head on his shoulder and his face nestled deep within her sweet scented hair.  As the song ended and faded into another Skylar pulled away to look at him.  "After all this time, and after how I treated you, why do you still want to be with me?"  she asked.  JC smiled, cupping her face in his hands.  "Because Skylar, you deserve your life to be nothing less than a beautiful love song."
