A Change Of Heart

Chapter 6

By:Kate

Just then, Nick stopped tickling me and just laid there on top of me, saying
nothing.  He looked into my eyes and swept the random pieces of hair that
were covering my eyes.  My heart was beating a thousand times faster than
usual, and I could hear his heart beat on my chest, too.  Nick inched in
closer, and kissed me.  Not just some quick kiss, but not a passionate, long
one either.  It was the perfect kiss.  I was in seventh heaven-no not the
t.v. show.

Nick pulled away, shaking his head, apologizing a million times for kissing
me.

“I-I am so sorry, I uhh I just I don’t know what to uhh say umm,” Nick
stammered.

I smiled, “Nick, it’s fine, I mean I umm kinda…”

What the hell, now I was at a loss of words, too!

Nick smiled and put his hands on my chin and brought my lips to his once
again.

As we were kissing, AJ walked in.

“What the fu-,” AJ started, as Nick and I stopped, and looked up to see AJ
looking at us.

“Whoa-I knew she was playing your girlfriend in the video but-uh..just..Ugh
nevermind.” AJ said, shutting the door behind him as he left.

Than I realized…. What was I doing?  Here I was, in a dressing room, making
out with a Backstreet Boy!  The one I disliked the most as a kid to say the
least!  Brian on top of me like this-now that I could picture…but NICK and
me?  It was weird because it just felt so right.  It felt as if I was made
to be with Nick, like Nick was for me and Brian wasn’t.  Was Nick for me?  I
wasn’t complaining if he was at this point.

“Umm, I guess we better get out there before one of the other guys walks in
on us,” Nick said, getting up.

“Uh, right,” I said, fixing my hair.

We walked out of the room to see Brian and AJ conversing, while looking in
our direction.

“What?” Nick asked, a little grouchy.

“See Summer, I told you Nick isn’t usually happy this early in the morning,”
Brian yelled to Summer, referring to the way Nick snapped at Brian and AJ.

“I need some more coffee,” Nick said, in the same tone he talked to Brian
and AJ in.

He started to walk away when I stopped him.

“Whoa, Nick!” I said, grabbing his arm to make him turn around, “You weren’t
like this two seconds ago, why the sudden change?  I mean if it was the
kiss…I admit-it was weird.  But we can pretend it never happ..”

Nick cut me off, “Is that what you want?  To pretend it never happened?”

“Oh no, I didn’t mean it like that.  I was just saying…”  I was kind of
scared at this sudden bad mood Nick was in.

“Look Summer, it wasn’t you or the kiss.  In fact-that blew my mind.  It’s
the fact that the guy’s always make fun of me and shit whenever I get
involved with a girl and it just makes me look like a total idiot.  I wanted
it to be different with you.  You know-not look like the moron that people
think I am.”

“Oh Nick, I never thought you were an idiot.  What the guys do to you is
hilarious actually.  It’s only because they love you, they need someone to
pick on, and you’re their younger brother to do that stuff to.  They would
never do it to hurt you.  They probably don’t even know you think that way.
I mean who would think Nick Carter, the master of practical jokes, would get
upset by a little fooling around by them?”

“I guess you’re right,” Nick said.

“You guess I’m right?  Oh honey, you don’t know anything about me do you?” I
said, trying to make him laugh.

He cracked a smile, “I guess not, but I can always learn.”

“We’ll have to see about that Carter,” I said with a grin.

He wiggled his eyebrows a little.

“Well you seem to be in a better mood,” AJ said, slapping him on the back,
as him and Brian walked over.

“Yeah, sorry bout that.  I guess I didn’t get much sleep last night, so I’m
just grumpy,” Nick lied, not wanting to tell Brian and AJ what he told
Summer because he didn’t want them make fun of him anymore than they already
did.

“I’m gonna go talk to Allie,” I said.  As I walked by Nick I whispered into
his ear.  “You’re going to have to tell them why you got upset like that
eventually.”

As much as he didn’t want to hear that, he knew it was true.

I was talking to Allie about some random stuff about the shoot when Nick
came over.

“Well I told them,” he told me.

“You told them what?” I asked.

“Why I got so pissy before.”

“And what did they say?” I asked, wondering how Brian and AJ responded.

“They laughed in my face.” Nick stated.

I couldn’t help but laugh myself.

“Oh so you think it’s funny, too?  Great.” Nick said.

“No, no it’s not that.  You realize why they laughed at you, right?”

“Should I know?”

“Nick, how many times have you put fake mice in their beds, or gave them
fish tasting gum, or colored their hair, or..”

“Hmm…colored their hair?  Never did that one before..have to try it
sometime.”

“So what did they say after that,” I asked.

“Oh they said they understood...blah, blah, blah.”

“Well that’s good,” I told him.

“Yeah I guess.”  Than Nick quickly said, “Hey aren’t you that girl that is
friends with AJ?” he asked , finally realizing someone was sitting next to
me.

“Yeah…” she responded.

“Well, as a younger brother to AJ, I must tell you all of his secrets.  Not
big ones just stuff like he sleeps with stuffed animals, and…oh wait till
you hear the blankie story….” Nick said, grinning.

“Nick!” I said, laughing.

“What?” he asked, sounding like he didn’t know why I said his name like
that.

“Weren’t you the one ten minutes ago, complaining on how the other guys make
you look like an idiot in front of girls?” I asked.

“Yeah, but didn’t I already tell you in the other room, Summer, revenge is
bittersweet.”

He smiled at me, than went back to telling Allie stories about AJ.
