Chapter 10

"Thirsty?" Nick asked as he handed Paradise a glass of water.

Paradise looked up. "Uh...yeah. I guess." She said. She took the glass of water from his hand, took a few sips, and set down on the coffee table. "Thanks."

"No prob." Nick said as he took the glass and returned it to the kitchen.

Paradise wrinkled her forhead in confusion. For the last few days Nick had been acting kind of....nice. He got her everything she needed even before she asked for it. She guessed it was because she told him that he had cheated on Melisa when he slept with her. "Who knew that that one little comment would turn him into my personal slave?"

Nick came back into the room and asked her if she wanted anything. "Uh could you order some pizza? Pepperoni with extra cheese?"

Nick obeyed her request and went to the phone to order.

"Yeah...extra cheese. Alright. Thank you." Nick hung up the phone and sat down on the armchair. He sighed. This was getting really tiring.

Paradise saw the exhaustion on his face. "Nick?"

Nick looked up at her, thinking she was going to ask him to do something else.  It had been a hard week. Imagine a famouse popstar as somebody's slave! That just wasn't right. He couldn't take anymore commands. He stood up fiercly. "You know what? Forget this. I don't care who the hell you tell, but I am not gonna be your slave!" He screamed as he walked out of the house and slammed the door.

Paradise winced. "Geez. And I thought only girls got pms."

A few hours later, Nick found himself standing in his house once again. "God! I can't believe this!"

"What happened?" Paradise asked.

Nick scowled at her. "Nothing that you should be concerned about!"

"Fine! Bite my head off just for being concerned!"

Nick sighed. "Go pack your bags."

"Why?" Paradise asked.

"Don't question me! Go pack your bags!" Nick screamed.

"Don't yell at me! Tell me why I should go pack my bags!" Paradise screamed back.

"Do as I say!" Nick said, getting into her face.

Paradise pushed Nick her index finger. "Listen, Mr. Carter, I may be a girl and you may be a heartthrob to all those girls, but you listen! You have nothing over me! I don't answer to anyone! You got that! Now, I am willing to compromise with you here, so tell my why I should go pack my bags!"

Nick winced. "You know what? I'm not in the mood to argue, so just pack your bags. We're leaving for New York tommorow and Richard says that you have to come. We're gonna be there for two days, so you can go ahead and pack light."

Paradise nodded and walked upstairs to pack. An hour later, she came back down to see a tired Nick sitting on the couch. She smiled and walked behind him so that he wouldn't notice that she was there. She began massaging his shoulders. "God, you're so tense."

Nick groaned. "Oh...that feels good Melisa."

Paradise winced at the name, but continued to massage his shoulders. Pretty soon, he fell asleep. Paradise looked at him. He looked so innocent when he slept. No one would ever know what he was capable of, though. No one except her.

The next day, Paradise found herself at the airport. She watched as Melisa and Nick kissed each other good-bye. She blinked away the tears that were rising in her eyes. Paradise followed security onto the plane. Good thing word hadn't leaked out that the guys were here, because fans would have been everywhere.

She slept on most of the ride to New York. No one wanted to talk to her and if they did, they always had something bad to say. "Oh well, I can live with that. I've got what I wanted....that's all that matters."

Before long she found herself dressed and ready for TRL. She was standing in MTV studios where TRL took place. She didn't want to come, but then again, no one wanted her to come. She had to come to make the marraige sound believable.

"So, Nick, I heard you ran off and got married. What's that about?" Carson asked.

"Um...yeah that's...that's true." Nick replied.

"Boy, you don't sound too sure there." Carson laughed. "Speaking of marraige, I believe your wife is here with you today. I'm pretty sure that the Backstreet fans would like to know who jacked you off the market."

Nick faked a laugh. "Yeah, I'm sure they would."

"So let's bring her out." Carson suggested.

Paradise gaped. "Hell no! I'm not going out there! They'll kill me!" She thought as a worker tried to usher her out. "No way! I can't go there! I'm not going!" Paradise whined.

"Well it seems the the new Mrs. Carter is shy." Carson laughed. "Nick, c'mon man. Tell her to come on out."

"I don't think that's a good idea. She's pretty stubborn." Nick laughed.

"C'mon man! You're the good hubby! Bring her out."

"Paradise, c'mon out!" Nick said with a sigh.

Paradise shook her head, even though she knew he couldn't see her. Richard came up behind her. "You gotta do this Paradise."

Paradise looked at him and nodded as she walked out. "Oh and here she comes. Mrs. Paradise Carter!" Carson roared. "Oh Nick, you caught a pretty one."

Paradise blushed. "What's up, Carson?"

"Nothing. Just wondering why you're with Nick."

Paradise laughed. "He caught my eye."

"So are you scared that all these girls are gonna tear you apart."

"Well, I'm a bit worried...but whatever happens, happens."

Nick just watched Paradise. She handled all of this so easily. If he didn't know better, he would actually believe her.

"So, guys, how do ya'll feel about Paradise? I mean, this whole thing happened so suddenly."

"Well, I agree with you there. It did all happen suddenly, but it's really not that bad. I mean, you can totally see that they're in love and no one can deny that." Brian replied.

"Yeah, it is a bit different now that she's around but she's like a little sister to us and we're not complaining." Kevin said.

"Sometimes I wonder how they can stay together. They're opposites, yet their exactly the same. It's weird, but I'm glad that they found each other." Howie answered.

"So how did you two meet?" Carson asked.

"Uh..."Nick looked over at Paradise and silently told her to cover this one.

"We met at the beach. I love to paint and draw and stuff. Anyways, I was at the beach painting the sunset and Nick was just looking at my picture. I didn't know he was standing there so I just continued painting when out of nowhere he said, 'that looks good.' I jumped and my painbrush hit his face. It was so funny 'cause he had a purple streak on his face, running from his eyes to his chin. And we just kinda clicked from there." Paradise said. Hopefully that sounded believable enough and by the looks on everyone's faces, it did.

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but weren't you going out with some girl named...uh...Melanie or something like that? I didn't even hear of a break up."

"Melisa. I was going out with a girl named Melisa and it was going pretty good and all. I thought she was the best thing in my life but after I met Paradise on the beach everything changed. So I ended it with Melisa and she understood. We're very good friends right now and hopefully that'll last long."

Carson nodded. "Well anyways we're gonna go ahead break for a commercial. Don't leave, we'll be right back."

Paradise let out the breath she was holding. It was finally over, she could leave. Without bothering to tell anyone, she left for the hotel.
