Chapter 9
Nick drunkenly walked into his house. For the
past few weeks, he tried to stay away from the house as often as
he could. He would go out to some clubs at night, get drunk, and
get home at daylight.
Nick
looked around at the dark house. He tried to find his way to the
stair, but bumped into something. He yowled as something landed
on his foot. "Stupid book!" Nick didn't have the
strength to go upstairs, so he decided to crash on the couch.
When
Nick woke up the next morning, the first thing he noticed was
that a blanket was covering him and his head was rested on a
pillow. "That's funny. I don't remember getting a pillow
and blanket." There was a light scent in the air. It
smelled so familiar and comforting. What was it? Just as Nick was
about to think deeper on that subject, his stomach interrupted.
He
walked to the kitchen to get some food. "There probably
isn't any in there anyways." Nick said aloud, remembering
the pig-out him and the guys had had the day before. To his
surprise, when he opened the refrigerator, it was stocked with
food. "She must have gone grocery shopping."
He
smelled the scent again. It smelled like the ocean breeze. It was
so natural and comforting. Nick's stomach growled again.
"You
know, if you're that hungry, I could cook for you. But then
again, you don't know what kind of poison I would put in
there."
Nick
turned around. "Are you a stalker?"
"Nope.
Sorry. Got better things to do that stalk you."
"Really?
Like what? Sleeping with innocent guys so that you can have
babies with them and get their money?"
"You're
not exactly what I would call innocent, Nick."
"Well,
you're exactly what I would call a whore!"
"Call
me what you want Nick, but at least I don't cheat the on one that
I claim to love."
"What
the fuck are you talking about?"
"Nick,
I'm not a blond. I know that you've been telling everyone that
you slept with me when you and Melisa broke up."
"So?"
"Well,
I don't think Melisa would like it if she found out that you were
lying to her. You got back together about five months ago. This
baby just turned three months old!"
Nick's
face drained of all color.
"So
before you go callin' me a whore, think about who really sleeps
around!" Paradise said as she stomped off.
Nick
stood frozen for a second longer. "There is no way I'm
gonna let her blackmail me."
Nick
walked into the living room where Paradise was folding the
blanket. "For your info, we broke up that month too!"
Nick said, hoping his lie sounded truthful enough.
"Sure,
Nick." Paradise said sarcastically.
"She's
not buying it! Play it cool." Nick thought.
"Just thought you'd wanna know before you let out the wrong
information."
"Whatever."
Paradise said as she gathered the pillow and blanket and took
them upstairs.
