Chapter Eight

JC stormed into his room, slamming the door behind him.

Damn Chris! Why did he have to go and say that? He was having a lot of fun with Alanna and Chris just had to go and ruin it by insinuating that he wanted their relationship to be something more than friendship. That couldn't happen. It wouldn't happen. Perhaps if things had been different something could happen but JC had been hurt and he wasn't willing to take another chance.

JC and Taylor had dated for close to 2 years. Just over 3 months again she had decided that her career as an actress was more important than her relationship with JC. How could she audition for roles when she was following him around the country? JC had understood her need for a career herself, he was willing to support her all the way. She confessed that she couldn't be bothered with the hassle of a long distance relationship and being single would give her a better chance at winning roles. JC had been heartbroken. How could she throw away almost 2 years of friendship, companionship...love? JC had sacrificed a lot for Taylor. He had gone against management's wishes and made his relationship with Taylor public. The backlash from the fans didn't bother him because he had her and he didn't have to hide her. He wanted the whole world to know about this special person in his life. He had risked his relationship with his family also. They had never been too fond of her, as had the other members of ‘N SYNC. He had risked it all for HER.

For a week after the break-up JC had holed himself up in his house. Chris who had threatened to send his mother over finally coaxed him out.

JC had finally come to terms with the split, putting all his energy into the group. The guys had tried to set him up with friends of theirs but he wasn't interested. He couldn't risk being hurt like that again. If someone he thought he would spend the rest of his life with could treat him like that what would top someone else from trampling all over his heart?

When Taylor had turned up at the after party that day he had been in shock. He had allowed Taylor to pull him into her arms. Had he seen a flash of disappointment in Alanna's eyes? He didn't know. It didn't matter.

After Alanna had excused herself he had finally come to his senses. He had pushed away from Taylor and just stared at her. She was acting as if nothing had happened.

Taylor had gone on to invite him to the premiere of the movie she had just finished. Apparently now that she had a big named film under her belt it was okay to be seen with him.

JC had given her a disgusted look. How could she stand there as if nothing had changed? After everything she had put him through how dare she stand there and ask him that.

JC had shaken his head with a look of disgust and walked away.

Now sitting in his hotel room he thought back to the conversation that followed.

"JC what's wrong?" shouted Taylor as she ran after JC.

JC turned to look at her in disbelief. "What's wrong? If you don't know by now you are really stupid Taylor."

"What do you mean?"

"JC looked at the girl in front of him. He took in the shoulder length blonde hair and blue eyes. The eyes that held no emotion. He looked at the woman he once thought was the most beautiful person in the world. Now all he saw was evil.

"Is it something to do with that slut you were dancing with? Is she your new whore JC?" Taylor spat out.

JC's eyes flashed with anger. Never had he wanted to hit a woman but if he hadn't have been a real man Taylor would have been his first choice at that moment.

"How dare you talk about Alanna in that way," JC seethed.

"You know she's only after your money and status JC. Nobody would want to be with you otherwise, nobody would care about you at all."

Justin had stepped in at that moment with Ashlyn standing behind, confusion written all over her face.

"I think you should leave Taylor."

Taylor turned to look at Justin. "Don't worry I'm going. I wouldn't want to hang around you losers anyway."

Taylor turned to JC and whispered in his ear, "remember what I said JC. You're just a trophy, nothing more."

With that Taylor left the club.

"JC forget about her, she's not worth it."

JC looked at Justin and nodded. "I think I'm gonna head back to the hotel Justin. I'm really tired."

"You sure you're gonna be okay man?"

"Yeah. You two stay and have fun. I'll see you in the morning."

JC sighed remembering that night. He didn't know how or why Taylor had been there. Was she right though? Was he just a trophy that no woman could ever love? JC knew he couldn't take the risk in finding out. He couldn't let his heart be broken again.
