-/-Chapter 5-/-
Hours later Zac was lying upside down off the couch reading a comic book so that his head touched the ground and feeling like an idiot (not to mention looking like one) while he hummed the theme song to Survivor. He was dying of boredom and couldn’t understand why his brothers just left him.
“What in the world ARE you doing?” Jess asked leaning against the doorframe with a Twix bar in her hand.
Zac groaned…why did she always have to come and annoy him?
“I’m reading- go away,” Zac told her.
“Here,” She threw the Twix bar at him.
“What’s this for? How badly did you poison it?” He asked picking it up off his chest where it landed.
“I heard that chocolate stimulates brain power, I figure maybe if you eat enough you’ll realize that you’re reading your comic book upside down,” Jess smiled slyly taking a bite of her Twix bar and raised an eyebrow.
“Shut up!” He took chucked the Twix bar back at her but with lousy aim considering he was lying upside down and half of his body was off the couch.
“On second thought, why don’t you just go get some exercise? Increase the chances of hitting me next time,” Jess shrugged.
“Why did you bother me anyway?” Zac asked turning his comic book so it was now upside down just like he was as the blood rushed to his head.
“To tell you how stupid you looked,” Jess laughed walking out of the room.
Zac let himself fall off the couch and land with a thump as all of his body weight hit the floor.
“Everything alright in here?” Diana walked in hearing the crash.
“Did volcano Dorkus Zaccus finally explode?” Jess walked in laughing.
“Jessica,” Her mother said in a stern tone.
“Zac, I thought you went out with your brothers…” Diana replied.
“They left me, I guess they didn’t wanna hang out with me,” Zac shrugged.
“Not really Zac.” Isaac’s voice rang clear as he and Taylor walked through the doorway.
“Oh good you’re back, dinner is in a half hour, and no one go anywhere.” Diana smiled as she went into the kitchen figuring that the boys were old enough to fix their problem by themselves.
“Did you really have to leave Baby Spice here all day? He’s been doing nothing all day and he’s ruined mine,” Jessica kindly informed her brothers.
“You ruined our dessert so go away,” Taylor shook his head.
“Why didn’t you guys just tell me that you didn’t want to hang out with me? I can handle it…” Zac asked.
“Because they thought you would’ve gotten the clue when your imaginary friends wouldn’t play with you anymore,” Jess laughed walking out of the room.
“She’s got some good ones,” Ike laughed.
“ANYWAY…” Zac said getting back on the subject.
“Yeah – anyway, Mr. Impatient over here drove me up the wall until I left, I called to see if you wanted me to come by and pick you up when we got there but the line was busy…” Ike shrugged.
“Damn little wigger wannabe tied up the line…” Zac groaned.
“Huh?” Taylor asked confused.
“Never mind…it’s alright, I think I’m gonna go take a walk or something,” Zac got up and walked outside.
“Mom said don’t leave,” Taylor said.
“Oh well, and since when were you the one to car what authority thinka?!” Zac shrugged walking out the door.
“I told you he would be mad at us!” Ike hit Taylor on the arm.
“Hey- he’s Zac! Remember ‘he can handle it’,” Taylor replied.
“Well, now he thinks that we don’t like him or something…” Ike replied.
“He’ll get over it- he knows we like him just fine,” Taylor plopped down on the couch and turned on the TV when the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” Ike said.
“Maybe he just took a short walk…” Taylor laughed as he flipped on MTV’s Spring Break.
Isaac opened the door to be plowed over my Avery, Mac, and Zoe who ran into the house chasing each other and screaming.
“Whoa…” Ike replied.
“Umm…they’re home?” The sweet green eyed, dark brown haired babysitter replied.
“Thanks Lynn- did they like the new theme park?” Ike laughed, she looked tired.
“Yeah…except I don’t think that I should have bought them an ice cream,” Lynn Price bit her lip. She was the same age as Taylor, they had been family friends for a long time. Her and Taylor had played together when they were in diapers.
“Well…thanks,” Ike laughed getting out his wallet, “How much do we owe you?”
“Oh no- it’s okay Ike, your parents paid for my admission into the park, I like watching the kids,” Lynn told him.
“Are you sure?” Ike asked ready to close his wallet.
“Ow ow –Ike’s hitting on the babysitter,” Taylor whistled coming to the front door.
“Hey Tay,” Lynn smiled.
“Yes, Taylor- paying the babysitter…what a way to hit on someone,” Ike said sarcastically.
“Ike dude…” Taylor shook his head, “Not funny.”
Lynn laughed at the two brothers.
“We have to pay you…” Ike replied.
“Well I do need a date for the Spring dance…what a way to make a scene, going to a high school dance with a Hanson brother…” Lynn laughed.
“Oh hell no- I am NOT wearing a tie…” Taylor shook his head.
“Oh come on Tay! No one said you HAD to wear a tie,” Lynn pleaded – she had planned on asking Taylor…there was no chemistry, just friendship.
“Alright fine,” He couldn’t deny those pleading sparkling green eyes.
“Thanks!” She hugged him.
“No problem,” Taylor shrugged.
“Hello Lynn!” Diana walked out to greet the babysitter, “Boys where is your brother?”
Isaac and Taylor both shrugged.
“We passed him on the road, he was taking a walk – I stopped to say hello…he didn’t look too happy,” Lynn replied.
“Oh that boy better be home before dinner,” Diana shook her head.
“Mommy! Mommy! I went on the ponies seventy hundred times!” Mack said proudly.
“Seventy hundred? My! That’s a lot!” Diana replied.
“Well…I have to go or I might be late for dinner." Lynn smiled.
"Bye Lynn, thanks again," Ike waved.
"Bye guys! See you at the dance Tay!" She waved and winked knowing she was torturing her childhood pal.
