Chapter 9
Meeting of the Minds
I head for the elevator and press the button for Kevin's floor. We get there quickly.
I meet Kevin's Mom at the door, but I never see Ronnie grab AJ and pull him aside.
"Ok, Tattoo Boy, what the hell is your problem with my girl!"
"Look, sista..."
"Don't sista me, buddy. I'll kick your skinny little ass from here to Hollywood. Nobody makes my girl cry...NOBODY!"
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make her cry. Really I didn't. I just...Look, Kevin is my family. He's my brother. I care for him just like you care for Steph. I don't want anyone hurting him. Here she comes out of the blue. What are we supposed to think? We have to have our defenses up."
"Are you nuts? Ok. Fine, I can understand that, I can. But do you have any idea how much money she's worth? The only person on this planet that has more cash than her dad is Bill Gates. She works though. Every day. She's never EVER put money before friends. It doesn't mean anything to her. Hell if she wanted to she could by you little group...twice!!"
"I got now way of knowing that! All we know is Kevin was going in and out of consciensous and he pulls her name out of his ass! We've never heard of her. EVER!! She could be some gold digging whore, or after him for his name...we don't know that!"
"You know what Backstreet Boy..."
"My name is AJ."
"Your NAME is Alexander James McLean...don't fuck with me, Mister, you do NOT know who you are dealing with. Now I'm gonna tell you this once and one time only. That blonde one said that the only thing that could end your group would be death. You make my girl cry again, or if she gets a hangnail and blames you, I will end your group. Now try me."
Nick looked at Annie.
"Is she always like that?"
"Is he always like that?"
"Only when we can't do anything to help."
"Same with Ronnie."
Annie introduced herself to Nick and Howie. Brian walked out of Kevin's room because of the heated discussion between Ronnie and AJ.
"Enough! This is a hospital for Chrissakes! You all are acting like children. We have to pull together for Kevin, if for no other reason."
"He's right Ronnie. We'll settle with these guys later. Right now, we're here to make sure Steph is ok. The only reason we care about their friend is because she does. After she's cool...we'll 'discuss' things with these....gentlemen."
"Fine by me." Ronnie and AJ reply at the same time.
