"Wanted: R.U. 18-23 With the ability to Sing/Dance" Thr managers of the 80's boy band Bros are auditionining fir an all-girl band. The girls are by now regulars on the audition circuit.Mel B appears briefly on British soap opera 'Emmerdale'And emma is a mugger on another soap 'Eastenders' Melc makes it down to the last few for a part in 'Cats' but doesn't get it. She's auditioning to work on a cruise ship when she sees the advert. March 1994: Over 300 girls turn up for the girl band audition. The 2 Melcs and Vic make it through. Geri misses the first audition but gets a second chance. Emma only joins in the summer , replacing original fifth spice Michelle stephenson. The girls all move into a house in Maidenhead , Near london. 
The management name the girls ' Touch'They put them under a strict training routine. Tears are not Unusual.Gradually their voices improve. By late 1994 the girls wanted to start writting and singing their own material but their manegement are not so sure. MelB and Geri take a stand. The relationship between manegement and the girls deteriorates. Match 1995: The girls say goodbye to Maidenhead forever. Mid 1995 , the girls pick up the name Spice and start working on their own material. 'Spice' hook up with Annie Lennox's Manager Simon Fuller September 1995: the girls sign with virgin records April 17th 1996: The girls first Live TV appearence on MTV'S Hanging Out.  
July 1996:'Wannabe' their first single is released in the UK It was an insitant hit. It stays at number 1 for 7 weeks selling over 1.25 million copies in Britain alone. When Wannabe tops the US charts in Februay 1997 it will have been number 1 in 31 countries. Their next 2 singles 'Say you'll be there' and 2 become 1 reach number 1 in 53 countries between them.Their first album 'Spice' sells over 21 million copies worldwide.The girls works non stop. But the spice girls arent just promoting their music. March 1997 they launch a new British TVchannel May 1997 their faces appear on 100 million soft drink cans. There are spice girl chocolates, crisps , cameras , dolls.less than 12 months after releasing their first record , the girls start shooting their first movie. And they have no problem finding co-stars " Richard E Grand "Whilist making the movie , they're also at work on their second album. They then annouce they'll play their first ever live gig in october 1997 in Istanbul , Turkey. Once filming is over , they start rehearsing. 
A week before ISTANBUL , The girls launch their 2nd album ' Spice World " In Spain. 3 weeks later , they 're in South Africa to meet Nelson Mandela.The pace though is finally catching up with them. The girls needs some time off. Their manager wants them to keep going .Intentions began to show . Immidiatly , the press question whether the girls can survive.For the 2nd time in 3 years the girls rid of their management. The girls start managing themselves. The girls seems to know what they are doing when they score another christmas number 1 in the UK with ' Too Much' Crisis rumours continue as the rehearse for their world tour. The girls are as optimistic as ever. 
February 1998: The first date of the world tour in Dublin , Ireland. The tour's a massive success. They add extra stadium dates uin the UK. Their gig at Madison Squre Gardens, New York sells out in 10 minutes. |
