The Proposal

Saturday – February 1st, 2003

So I went and sat down next to Nate on the couch.  He started to be all “lovey-dovey” and I just wasn’t in the mood because I had an agenda for the day and he was messing up my plans. I backed away from him and asked him if he wanted to go to the grocery store with me.  He didn’t really answer, but I could tell that he wasn’t too excited about that idea.  So I told him that he could stay there while I went to the store and he said no.  By this time I was getting annoyed.  So then I said, “O.K, then what do YOU want to do?”  His reply was, “I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”  Now, take into mind here that Nate says sweet things like this to me all the time.  So for him to say this to me was nothing out of the ordinary.  Sill annoyed because I had my “To Do” list on my mind, I said, “I know that Nate, but what do you want to do RIGHT NOW?!?”

Nate fell to the floor on his knees with his head in my lap laughing. When he picked his head up, he held out his hand with a small box in it.  He said again, “I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”  I was completely shocked.  I was shaking, crying and laughing all at the same time.  I said to him over and over again, “Nate is this a joke, or is this for real?”  Even when he opened up the ring box, and showed me the ring I asked him if it was fake.  In my eyes, it was too beautiful to be for me, and I didn’t see how there was anyway this was really happening.  Needless to say, I said “YES” and we spent the whole day on the phone calling family and friends.
