"So how was your date with Nick?" Leighanne asked curiously.
"He was really sweet. He told me a lot about what it was like when he was touring over in Europe with the guys. . . I can't believe some of the crap he went through."
"Yeah, Nick went through a lot of stuff at his age. And He is still a really great guy. . . I think he owes a lot of that to Kev and Brian. Those two are always there for him whenever he needs them, even to this day."
"Yeah Brian and Kev love him so much. . . I mean I do too; he is just a great kid and that's why I wanted you to go out with him. I told you that you'd like him."
"I knew that one was coming. I was just waiting for your 'I told you so..." to pop up." Kayla laughed.
"You know me pretty well Kay."
"Yeah. . . Not something to brag about!" she teased. "You want to come to my audition with me?"
"When?"
"Today, in like an hour."
"Really what are you auditioning for?"
"It's a new series on WB about a actress and her life outside the set."
"Oh Kay tell me you aren't doing a reality show where they are going to follow you everywhere. . ."
"No way! It's all fictional. Scripts and all."
"Good. . .Sure I'll come."
"Cool. Let's go. . ."
"Where are they shooting the show?"
"Well they are doing auditions all over but I think they are shooting in Orlando."
"Why Orlando?"
"Not sure. . . I think they are just set on someplace in Florida. I'm not sure yet. I figure I don't even need to know all of that until I actually get the job because I might not get it."
"You know you'll get it. You are really good."
"Thanks."
"Nick, pay attention..."
"Huh?"
"Come on Nick please tell me you did not just space out through that entire thing!" AJ groaned knowing he was going to have to listen to it all over again.
"I did not! I was listening."
"Alright then Nick what were we talking about?" Kevin asked smugly knowing that Nick had no c lue.
"Um we were uh talking about the new album."
"Well duh Nick. What were we trying to decide about the new album?" Kevin asked narrowing his eyes at Nick's lost expression.
"We were trying to uh figure out......Decide about..."
"Thank you Nick for listening. I always love it when you guys are all so into the meetings."
"Quit Kev. Maybe he is just tried." Brian defended.
"He isn't a baby, he needs to know that he is supposed to be well-rested for these meetings. We can't keep treating him like he is 12."
"Just lay off Kev."
"Nick can't you stand up for yourself? Why is it that you always send Brian in to fight your battles?"
"Shut up."
"Good job Nick....That was a whole two words in your own defense!! I'm so proud." Kevin said leaning into Nick's face.
"Get away from me." Nick grumbled softly.
"What?" Kevin asked cocking an eyebrow at Nick.
"Get Away From Me!!" he yelled standing up and pushing Kevin back, and sending him flying against the wall in one fluid motion. "I can fucking defend myself! Want to test how good a fighter I am? Get in my face like that again and you will find out." Nick warned glaring directly at the shocked Kevin who stood against the wall breathing heavy from Nick knocking the wind out of him.
"Nick just sit down and we'll work this out..." Brian said softly trying to get Nick to sit back down.
"No...I don't need you to defend me...I don't need you to work out my problems...I'm grown up...I don't need you. I hate you in my business all the time...in my damned life." Nick said in response to Brian but he was looking straight at Kevin, the words purely meant for him and all the guys knew it. Even though Brian knew the words weren't meant for him, it hurt enough for him to back up and let Nick go. He stormed out of the room leaving the guys staring at the opened door in shock.
"I'm going to go talk to him...." Brian started.
"No, let him cool off. He has too much attitude right now." Kevin said gruffly but the guys knew he was not only surprised by Nick's actions but hurt too.
"Kevin you know he is probably just having a bad day...He doesn't hate you or anything." Brian said noticing the disturbed look on Kevin's face. He was tempted to point out that if Kevin had listened to him the fight would have never taken place, so in a big way it was really Kevin's fault for not just leaving well enough alone. But then Brian thought about it and decided that now was probably not the best time for that, Kevin was blaming himself enough on his own.
"Well now that Nick is gone we might as well just end the meeting because without everyone here there is no way that we can really get anything done."
Nick sped down the expressway not knowing where he was going, just that he wanted to get away from Kevin's attitude. After he had told Kayla about all the memories with the guys he started to remember a few more...Ones where Kevin wasn't such a wonderful caring person.

"Nick, why don't you just get over it?? Quit pouting about not being able to do whatever you want!!" Kevin bellowed shaking Nick slightly. Kevin was at the end of his rope with this kid...He had officially gotten them all stuck in the hotel because of one of his stupid little pranks.
"But I..."
"BUT NOTHING!! YOU do NOTHING but complain all the time!!"
"I miss my home..." he pouted.
"Yeah? Well I bet they are celebrating right now."
"Why?" Nick asked innocently.
"Because YOU aren't there." Kevin said gruffly.
"No...They..." he said as he began to cry. 'Maybe Kevin's right...Maybe that's why they let me go.' he thought and his thoughts only caused him to cry harder.
Nick sped up glaring at the road as his mind was flooded with memories from when he was young and Kevin was just plain mean to him. 'I'm so sick of his attitude!! No matter what I do, it's never enough for him. He'll never treat me like anything but ignorant child.' Nick thought bitterly.
"I'm really worried about him Leigh...He is usually pretty c ool about this kind of stuff...about Kev." Brian said miserably.
"I know hon...But Nick is grown up. I'm sure he is just fine."
"You know what he probably is but I am just worried...This would be our fault if something happened to him."
"What exactly did Kev do to make him blow up like that?"
"Kev was being Kev. He is in one of his moods that he gets in from time to time and Nick had decided to space out on today's meeting...Kevin got in Nick's face because he was mad that Nick completely ignored the meeting. Then Nick fought back...he defended himself. I think he has finally had enough of being baby Nicky." Brian said staring into space as he thought about the last few years with the guys.
"Hello?"
"Hey Kay, this is Nick."
"Hey Nick, how are you doing?"
"I'm alright...I was wondering if you might like to grab some dinner with me tonight." "Well sure if you don't mind eating at my place..."
"Oh did you already have plans?" he asked dejectedly.
"Well sort of...But I'd love for you to come over." she said noticing the fact that he sounded depressed.
"Oh that's alright. I'll just talk to you later."
"No Nick! Wait...I really want you to come to dinner tonight...Please? For me?"
"I don't want to intrude on your plans Kay."
"You aren't...I would have invited you but I thought that you guys were working tonight. So please would you come and join me for dinner tonight?"
"What time?"
"7 but if you could come over early I could use a little help."
"Ok...Talk to you soon Kay."
"Later Nick."
