Chapter 11

"Hey. What are you doing here?" The man at the door asked curiously. Jess looked at Justin and then at herself, noticing that this must look bad to him. Right now it didn't matter though, she was worried that something was wrong.

"Oh, Jess here was kind enough to take me in for awhile. Isn't she just peachy?" He joked placing his arm around the barely clothed Jessica.

"Yeah, a peach." He said without emotion. "Hey, if this is a bad time I can come back later." He started to turn around but Jess stepped forward and grabbed his arm. She felt bad for him. He looked sad.

"Nick, wait. Why don't you come in and we'll all watch a movie or something." She started to pull him into the apartment but he pulled his arm away.

"Nah, I just wanted to see if you wanted to go out and do something. But if you guys had plans I'll just leave." Jess rolled her eyes. She hated when he did that, he always would say something to make her feel bad even if he didn't mean to. That's when he made her feel bad the most, when he didn't mean to.

"No, let me get dressed and we'll go out for dinner at the little restaurant down the road. Just me and you. K?" He nodded, came in and shut the door. He looked around but didn't move from the spot by the door. This was the first time he had ever been in her apartment. He didn't even know when she first moved in because it had been after they had broken up. He looked around the kitchen and saw all her little knick knacks given to her by Brian from all the different places he had traveled. He was surprised to see they were up there at all, considering she practically just forgave him. He took a couple more steps in when Justin headed back to the bathroom.

He looked at all of her pictures on the walls. One of her and her family when they first took a trip to Florida to visit Kevin. They were all on the beach in their bathing suits standing right next to the ocean. Smiles plastered their faces and his gaze landed on a young Jessica. Standing next to Brian and Kevin. That day was the first day he saw her. She didn't know it but he was at the beach that same day and saw when the picture was taken. He remembers he couldn't take his eyes off of this beautiful girl in the middle of a large group of tourists. He thought of her often after that. He'd drift off in class with thoughts of her. He thought it was ridiculous to be daydreaming about a girl he didn't even know. Not long after he joined the Backstreet Boys and met Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. They were the last members to join the group. He never thought nothing of it, they were just guys who he'd grow to love like brothers. Then one day while they were practicing in a warehouse, she walked in. He couldn't believe his eyes. There she was, the girl from the beach. He knew then he would love her, even if he wasn't with her. He continued to look at the pictures on the wall and smiled at the memories that overflowed his mind. He missed her. For the first time in a long time, he truly missed her. The hug at the house was just a little hint at his feelings for her, but he still remember what he said then. They were just friends and he was going to keep it that way.
